I don't see any red text here in my newsreader, but I can tell you that the
non-beta version of Outlook Connector support Outlook 2002/XP, while the beta
does not. Also, the new beta is for everyone, while the non-beta was *only* for
paid subscribers (Which would be MSN subscribers or Hotmail Plus).
MSN Mail = a premium version of Windows Live Hotmail / Hotmail - ie, it is a
subscription. That means that MSN subscribers gain access to the Calendar Sync
mentioned in the beta.

What was the point of that exercise? Many news readers do not render RTF in

Yes, I understand MSn qualifies as premium and the paid subscription.
The 'no mention of MSn' was only pointed out since it was present in the =
non beta page's content but not made clear in the beta version.

The information was contrasted since a cross section of folks in here do =
not use MSn Ex, have free msn.com and hotmail.com accounts where premium =
content will not be available.
And if by chance they do not use pre OL03 Office then the prior may be =
more appropriate.

The post was posted in Html(the only way to show red).

Another area that may be confusing would be on grandfathered http free =
accounts that function in OL03 and greater and converted from classic =
Hotmail to Live Hotmail that do not qualify as premium accounts.

Thus the beta, offers some upside advantages but may not be for =
everyone.

Be careful what you count as "paid" subscription, as I subscribed to the Windows Live Mail Plus package which despite meeting the wording on their downloads page as:

[

* For Calendar Tasks and Notes Functionality

A paid subscription-based e-mail account from MSN Hotmail, Windows Live Hotmail or Office Live

]

When I tried to work this out with support I got the old run around.

When I asked about cancelling the paid subscription they told me that I would then lose all access to Windows Live Mail within 60 days via Outlook - the very feature that the below connector is promoting itself as doing for FREE!!

Even when I referred the appropriate staff to the below download link, they still claim that I can't get access to the Calendar/Notes sync unless I pay for one of two much more expensive subscriptions, and if I cancel the Windows Live Mail Plus subscription that I'm on, I'll have my Outlook access to Live Mail cut off.

Just as a by-the-by - without the below connector software, I've merrily had access to Windows Live mail's email in Outlook 2003 for over a year simply by creating an Outlook account of type "HTTP Mail".

Stephen - perhaps you can help clarify the situation with this product, and the wording on your download page?

It's not my dwnload page. :-) It's Microsoft's.

The current production Outlook Connector is only for paid accounts. The beta
Outlook Connector is for *all* Windows Live Hotmail, MSN, and Hotmail accounts,
paid or free. With a paid account, you can also sync contacts and calendar,
while with a free account you can only access your mail using the Connector.
With your Plus account, you get full functionality. If you cancel the Plus
account, you will still have mail access through the beta Connector.

Premium Subscription services include:
a. MSN Premium: http://join.msn.com/premium/overview
b. Office Live Essentials/Premium: =
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officelive/default.aspx

Neither or these links for required subscriptions include the Live Mail =
premium(Hotmail Plus) accounts.

I've tried this on three separate machines
a. XP Home: Live HotMail(full version) free and Live HotMail(full =
version) Plus - it operates the same on both with the Beta OL Connector. =

- Contacts and calendar, notes and task are not sync'd.( o/s is XP =
Home)
b. XP Pro/Vista dual boot : Live HotMail Plus using older(non beta =
version) functions for managing calendar, contacts, tasks and notes.
c. XP Pro(laptop): Both Connectors fully function with a legacy pop3 =
account(had to log on to mail.live.com and update the account to the =
full Live Version) and also with an MSn Premium account. I don't have an =
Outlook Live account to test.

Separately.. I've yet to see the 4GB on the Live HotMail Plus account. =
I'm aware of at least 3 others still waiting with Live Hotmail Plus =
accounts. Additionally, well lets call it an oddity...Legacy Pop3 and =
Msn Premium(Explorer) accounts are only 2GB accounts and cost =
significantly more(free to some, $20, $22, $10 per month) for most to =
maintain than the $20 annual fee for a Hotmail Plus account.

That's interesting, winston, and thanks for reporting it. As far as I knew,
Hotmail Plus was indeed a qualifying subscription level. Hopefully, it will be
before the beta becomes final - I hope this was not a conscious decision and is
just an oversight.

At least for me its not an issue..since I still prefer Outlook 03 and 07 =
as stand alone clients and manage my contacts and calendar and tasks =
locally. I keep my msn/live web based accounts contacts to a minimum =
with the exclusive setting and only use those accounts for specific =
purposes. Enough for testing this any further at this time. I imaged =
the machines with the OLC installed, then reverted back to pre-Connector =
this morning. If something changes let me know I can easily go back and =
test more.

I hope we(msft) get this right..too much confusion in the information =
and documentation on the Connector. Also, a continued wish for =
deployment of the 4gb for all paid subscriptions(even Yahoo provides =
unlimited storage and 20MB message size for their Plus[$20/yr] plan).

I installed the Outlook Connector with my Office XP. At first the messages on
my live account were delivered to Outlook. But that stopped for no reason.
The synch log says: error with send/receive. Althought the server status is
OK the messages keep on not being delivered to my outlook.

Would appreciate your help dearly

The new Outlook Connector, just recently released, does not work with Outlook
2002/XP. It requires Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007.

The old version supported Outlook 2002/XP -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AA0AD3B0-E1A4-4990-A2BE-DDE78FED0709&displaylang=en

However, the old version only works with paid accounts. Is the account you are
trying to use a paid account?

If so, it may be worthwhile removing the account and adding it back again to see
if that resolves the problem.

Stephen,

I have downloaded the Connector for Outlook 2007 and Vista 32bits. First
time, all my hotmail emails retrieved in Outlook 2007 but since then i can
send emails but can't receive any.

I have message Time or check my sync folder for any log but i can't find it
either...

Any help would be great

Thanks,

Since it worked the first time, but not thereafter, I wonder if it is worth
deleting the account and adding it back again to see if that resolves it. Do you
encounter any errors when trying to receive mail from your Hotmail account
through the Connector?
Are you using Norton Internet Security by any chance? If so, disable email
checking and see if that resolves it.
