Windows 7 - turning off mcafee notifications for updates
Asked By Catherin

My McAfee software is up to date. Yet I get more-than-daily notifications
that it is not up to date. I can't figure out how to turn them off. I go to
the McAfee icon on my icon tray, and there are lots of things to do there,
but no way to find how to turn off the notifications. I suspect the
notification is coming from perhaps an additional folder or something. Can
you help?

Hello Catherine,
This newsgroup is specific to MSN related questions. You may want to visit
the McAfee Support website for technical help. They have an Answer Center
and Community Online Forum.

Thanks for the reminder! I appreciate it, and will follow protocol in the
future.

If there were a real protocol these bozos would be posting it periodically,
in each forum. I think this particular fellow makes it up as he goes along.
Nevertheless, when asking for help in any forum, it is good to give as much
information as possible.
Did you ever get help for your McAfee problem? I do not see this problem in
mine. I am using Windows 2000, MSN 9.5 and the free McAfee Security Center
that comes with MSN.

Thanks, Earle. I am in the process of eradicating all my mcafee software
from my laptop and will download the newest version in the next couple of
days. I'm using Vista (which has its own set of problems). Thanks again.

Tip: You don't want a McAfee or a Norton application if you're running
Vista.
Tip: Run this McAfee removal tool:

Thank you. What protection tool / software do you recommend? Shall I be
asking this of Vista?
PA Bear replied...
I'd recommend NOD32 or Kaspersky anti-virus for Vista, Catherine.

Another possibility is to wait for the inevitable upgrades to McAfee. They
are just late.

A note to Windows Vista Team Windows 7 I'm quite angry with Microsoft for releasing Vista before it's ready, I've wasted 8 hours of my time in a small replacing my desktops with laptops, and I won't be buying any more that have Vista on until Service pack 2 comes out. If I had the time, I would send it can be taken back to the retailer for a refund. If everyone took back vista, Microsoft would be in a sorry state now. I'm sure it would cost more to administer that than they have generated from the sale of vista. For gods sake, make sure that "Son of Vista" works first time! I know that it's us humans that program the bugs into ethos of the company when it was originally set up. A unhapy user! Installed Vista dual boot, think I screwed up! Windows 7 Hey gang, I think I have messed up here. I just installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate, retail full version, in what I thought was a dual boot environment. I added a new sata hard drive, and installed Vista on it. Now, I do not get an option when I boot to choose wich OS to boot to, it only boots into Vista. Under Vista, it shows as my C drive, I see the partion on the other hard drive my XP Pro is on, however under Vista it shows as drive E? Dangit, I thought I had read enough to know what I installed mine. If you don't have dual boot, it usually means that the Vista installation did not see your XP drive (was it unplugged?) if so that's just and choose the XP drive to boot to XP. If I don't do anything Vista will boot first. If worst comes to worst, use VistaBootPro on your Vista drive to
Lions and Tigers and Vista. . . . Oh my!! Windows 7 Hello, I am getting the hebbie-jebbies reading all this dialogue about the dissatisfied customers of Vista and those reverting back to XP. We recently purchased a Gateway with Vista pre-installed. It is still sitting here on the floor waiting to get up and it up and send it back!! I now know from reading in the discussion group, Vista is not compatible with Picture It 2002 which is an ultimately important feature that I years ago on my present Gateway with the XP system. I have recently learned that Vista will probably not be compatible with my printer which is a HP 1315 All In feat to revert back to XP when the new computer is already pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and some deem it a very stupid option. If I decide to do well. Although it appears that there are some very staunch activists on the side of Vista, it also seems very clear that it is a very popular opinion that Microsoft has done its customers a disservice by marketing Vista. I suppose the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' seems

Why even bother with Vista if your PC isn't broke. And if it is broke, why not look at you want to buy a nice new Shiny PC. . but your choices will be either Vista ( search for Vista on Youtube ) or something that might not be compatible with your work group, or require is available , pre installed on your new PC, you're good to go. The amount of pain I've put up with over the past couple 3 other machines. I know the reader may be bad but my gripe is that Vista goes merrily on its way without even mentioning that something didn't work. I need A to B, I either have to be real quick about it or wait until Vista gets over its presumption that what I really wanted was this or that part of the tree expanded. You've got about a second before Vista moves everything on you. You have to wait with your item selected until all this and then go hunt down your destination directory again. Then wait again to be sure Vista isn't going to move everything again. I don't know how many times the been through all this a time or two. Considering the transition from XP SP2 to Vista, I have never seen so many things get broken all at once. Vista does not make things better or easier - quite the reverse. I now spend more time
