Windows 7 - WLM keeps disconnecting in Vista

I just bought a new Sony with preinstalled Vista Business. I did a semi-clean install and then installed WLM 8.1 It installed correctly but everytime I log on, it disconnects after 3-4 seconds. I noticed that it does not even correctly import all the contacts, so that every time i reconnect, only portion of my contacts show.

I tried to set up the compatibility to "run as administrator" but that box was grayed.

I also tried reinstalling flash but it didn't help.

I don't think my LAN is a problem because this occurs even when I'm not using wireless

What's a "semi-clean install" and why did you do this if Vista Business came
preinstalled on the machine?

Two address the contacts, either of these options should work
- If Messenger 8.1 was installed on a prior machine, export those contacts
as a *.ctt file, copy the file to a jump drive or network then import on the
Vista machine
- Export your contacts from you prior client as a csv file, delete the
contacts in Messenger, close Messenger, then logon to mail.live.com and
import the contacts

I just got an Asus G1S, with Vista Home Premium 3GB of RAM.
I installed WLM 8.1 and I have same issue.
WLM keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds.
My other notebook using different user account don't do same, it is a MAC -
but that shows the network I am on is OK. I tried to reverse the user
accounts, same result. Tried to remove and re-install WLM same result!

Ideas???

It's been quite some time since I've used 8.1.
You might check other potential connection items.
Firewall, AV, Port Blocking(router or firewall) etc...

I've not experienced this issue with Windows Live Messenger(Version 2008) -
verion 8.5.1302.1018.

Hi!
Done all the basic footwork :) and Yahoo and Gmail (talk) both runs without
any problems.
I did try 8.5 with same result. However, I will this night try again. Just
to be 100% sure...
I also followed and tip found on the net about removing Adobe from the PC
and re-install.

I got this remedy from a wonderful girl at Telus. This worked for me hope it helps you.

I have WLM 8.5 on Vista Home Premium

Solution: Go to Control panel - Click Network and sharing center - Click manage network connection(in the left column) - Click Lan - Click properties - if you have two Internet protocol versions 4 and 6, uncheck Version 6. - reboot.

I'm hard wired to my modem, I'm not sure how this works if you are on wireless.

We recently purchased a Gateway with Vista pre-installed. It is still sitting here on the floor waiting to get up and it up and send it back!! I now know from reading in the discussion group, Vista is not compatible with Picture It 2002 which is an ultimately important feature that I years ago on my present Gateway with the XP system. I have recently learned that Vista will probably not be compatible with my printer which is a HP 1315 All In feat to revert back to XP when the new computer is already pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and some deem it a very stupid option. If I decide to do well. Although it appears that there are some very staunch activists on the side of Vista, it also seems very clear that it is a very popular opinion that Microsoft has done its customers a disservice by marketing Vista. I suppose the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' seems
