If you are not a Yahoo Plus subscriber or your account is not associated with
a Partner ISP, you will not be able to access the account via POP3 in a Windows
Mail or Windows Live Mail. (Yes, the name are confusing.)

Only some regional Yahoo domains still allow access to their POP and
SMTP servers for free accounts. Yahoo.com is NOT one of them. Unless
you have a paid Yahoo.com account, you do not get access to their mail
servers and are stuck using their webmail interface (or using YahooPOPs
as a local POP-to-HTTP proxy that uses their webmail interface to
navigate their e-mail service).
Did you pay for a Yahoo.com account? Are you a customer of SBC (an ISP)
that uses Yahoo for their e-mail service?

You need to pay them to get access to their mail hosts (POP and SMTP). I gave up on FreePOPs because it was too flaky. For freebie Yahoo Mail accounts, look at using YahooPOPs (YPOPS). It is another POP3-to-HTTP proxy. I used it for a couple of
