KB976749 Update for IE8 for Server2003

Asked By SteveM
03-Nov-09 03:02 PM
KB976749 is not installing on my Server 2003 machine.

The release notes indicate that the patch should only be applied to a
machine already patched with KB974455. I checked before attempting to apply
this patch that 974455 had already been applied.

Error code 0x80070017 shows following attempted installation from Windows
Update.

Local download and install attempt yields an error message saying "Data
Error (Cyclic redundancy check)" followed by installation not complete.

Any assistance on this would be appreciated.

Regards

Steve,See if this is pertinent:Error message when you use the Windows Update

Steve,

See if this is pertinent:

Error message when you use the Windows Update Web site or Microsoft
Update Web site to install updates: "0x80070017"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956704

The KB suggests running chkdsk first, then to rename the
Software Distribution\Download subfolder.

If there have been no such cyclic redundancy errors before, suggest you
manually download and *save* the update from the links in the KB
article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976749
Close the browser and any other open programs first, then install it.
It should require a reboot. It did not on my Vista system, did on my XP
and Windows 7 systems. YMMV.

From Steve's headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

I can see that there is no use posting to the NNTP newsgroups any longer
since the web based "things" no longer pick the posts up.
