Windows 7 - WMP remains in processes

When I try to start a WMV file (included in a mail or from hard disk) , WMP
does not start.
Starting task manager, I find WMP running.
I stop this process and after that , I can start the WMV file.
Anybody for help to solve this problem

I forgot to mention :

O.S. : XP-SP3
WMP version 11

That typically means that WMP was having problems shutting down cleanly.  On
XP, this is most often indicative of a bad / faulty video card driver - have
you checked for updates for yours from the respective vendor?
