Hi,
I have embedded some AVI files encoded with the Indeo5 codec into an HTML
web page. This works well if the file are located on my local hard drive,
both in the standalone media player and embedded in the HTML page. However,
if I now place the file on a remote location, say a network drive, the
movies will not play at all, in either the standalone media player or embedded
in the HTML page (in fact, trying to view the web page completely crashed my
colleague's UNIX machine). After much searching, I have found that this is a
limitation imposed by Microsoft since XP SP2 (I am using XP SP3):

I do not have the choice over the encoding mechanism, I have to use Indeo5,
it is the only one available for encoding the movie. Is there any workaround
or solution to my problem? Does anybody know what the rationale is for
preventing playing AVI files encoded with Indeo from a remote location?
Thanks in advance,
Arnaud
