Powerline network problem

Asked By Jef Roe

I have 3 comps that are wireless and 1 comp at a poor signal range that I
want to use a Powerline set-up on. I purchased 2 Comtrend powerline adapters
and connected one to the router and tother to comp and have them running
great.

But, my wireless network to the other 3 comps has ground to a halt.

If I disconnect the Comtrends the wireless system comes back to life.

Any ideas please.

Hi
Powerline hardware is Not the most reliable mean for Networking.
Check the Vendors support they might have something to say about this.
Otherwise use Wireless WDS system to improve your Wireless coverage.

My System comprises,
BT Home Hub 2
2 x PowerGrid 902 Adapters
Dell M60 - Wireless
Desktop Clone 1 - Wireless
Desktop Clone 2 - Wireless
Dell Inspiron 1525 - Powerline

Yesterday I followed the manual and plugged the router adapter (AB) in and
connected it to the router with a CAT5 and set it to AP mode. I then plugged
the second adapter near the computer and connected it with a CAT5 and set it
to EP mode. The powerline network activated almost immediately. All this was
done while the other 3 comps were switched on with their wireless
connections active. It was at this stage that I notices all 3 having
difficulties either connecting or reconnecting to the router and then the
internet.

It was now late and I had some work to complete so I unplugged the powerline
adapters from the sockets and disconnected their CAT cables. The other 3
comps almost immediately came back to life and reverted to their normal
wireless operation.

Today I checked manuals that both the Home Hub 2 and Powerline adapters did
not have IP address conflicts which they did not. Tonight, I started up the
3 wireless comps and checked that their wireless's function OK which they
did. I then plugged the 2 Powerline adapters into their power sockets and
CAT cables and the powerline system functioned OK with no detriment to the
wireless network on the other 3 comps.

I think the answer lay in the old adage, which I forgot last night, with
networking. Once you make a change do a total shutdown and reboot all items.

Hope that helps.
