Asked By Rooki on 06-Feb-08 03:20 PM
When ever someone sends me an email with pictures embeded and then I forward
them onto other people the pictures arent there when they get it.

Are the images in the e-mail that YOU receive actually embedded or
merely linked?

Are you forwarding inline or as attachment?
Rooki replied on 07-Feb-08 09:55 AM
The pictures appear with in the email along with text, they are not
attachments that have to be opened separtely. I am simply just forwarding the
email.

That does NOT say whether the images are linked or embedded in the
e-mail itself. "Appearing" is what you see, not how the HTML code
specifies the content. The images will still "appear" within the body
of the e-mail even if they are linked images (i.e., there are <IMG
src=urlsource ...> tags within your HTML-formatted e-mail for external
content which "appears" within the body of the e-mail). The linked
external content will still appear inline to the body of the e-mail
but it is still an external link.

You can check the HTML code for the HTML-formatted e-mail (right-click
in the body of the e-mail to View Source). See if there are <IMG>
tags for the images. If not, check if there are MIME parts that
encode the image in plain-text along with disposition=inline. Those
are embedded images (i.e., they are not retrieved from some external
file server).

It is likely that when you forward inline that the linked external
content is getting filtered out for security reasons. That is why I
suggested forwarding as *attachment* so the recipient gets the actual
original e-mail rather than your edited inline copy of it. Otherwise,
you could check if the option "When an HTML message contains pictures
... send copy of pictures instead of reference" is enabled. Maybe
that will convert the linked external images to embedded images in
your *new* e-mail that you send to someone else. That is the option's
name in OL2002 under Tools -> Options -> Mail Format tab -> Internet
options. You did not mention WHICH version of Outlook that you use.

Why cannot microsoft just stay the hell out of my email messages. Nobody asked
them to change the content of the message. Arrogant sobs

I followed this thread regarding this issue in Outlook and wonder if it applies to my mail2web live account. When I try to forward emails with pictures embedded within the message, the picture does not appear (a blank square with an x in the corner does). I have not been able to get a decent response about this from mail2web support. Is there somewhere in my Internet Explorer 7.0 where I can activate the ability to do this?

Hi also having similar problme, can anyone advise (as nothing seems to fix the problem), I can view picture on email (not an attachment) when I recieve email, but when I try to forward it on it turns into an empty box with a little red cross in the corner.

E-mail that I receive with pictures (not attachments)I can not
forward with the pics. Just the text goes thru. This just happened three days ago. Before that no problem.

My disappearing pictures have nothing to do with the Internet. Someone will send me a photo of their family. I'll save it into an Outlook folder called "Family" on my email page and the next day it is gone. Just a little red x in a box is left. The title or text is still there. But no picture. If I saved it to My Pictures on the documents section, it is saved. But not if I just save it to an email folder. Now I've learned but still have lost several good photos. Why does text save but not pictures? I need a solution to retrieve the "lost" ones. Sorry Vanguard (see below), that is too complicated. Lyn

When trying to forward emails that contain embedded photos the text forwards w/out the photos. The emails I receive do not include photo attachments.

I have seen many complaints about this problem and I have the same problem. I don't believe there is an adequate understanding of what is happening based on the questions those trying to give advice are asking. So I did a video capture of my screen when the flashing happens. Please see it on YouTube at

http://youtu.be/F7UknHRzB30

This gives you the idea of what is happening. It happens when replying to or forwarding an email with images.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This happened to me when I upgraded to Windows 7 (64-bit) and this is outlook 2003.

Thanks.
