Is there a safe way of deleting doubleclick.net. It is a PITA as I cannot use
the browser (IE) back arrow to return to a previous site. Thanks in advance.

Google now owns (for some time now) the doubleclick.net
and have integrated it both directly and via internal (to google
links and advertising gimmicks) methods both into their modus
operandi and your browser/cookie/scripting temp caches.

You'll net to disable the cookies, place a 127 shortcut into
the hosts file, and use some advertising blocker or ad muncher
type of application to rid yourself of those woodtick
(essentially)
type of network spies and personal data/travel aggregators.

Then somewhere (if you accept another_cookie) beg google
not to accumulate data on you (where they will suggest you
are a bad person sneaking around the Internet or you would
appreciate being spied upon (essentially)). So how google
(or any other firm doing similar under the covers tracking)
expects to get away with those activities without any
consequences from abroad where such things are forbidden
is one of todays greatest and continuing mysteries.

Better yet, look for or shift to another browser and search
engine, it is not the tracking/collating of data that is so bad
as that we have no_agreement 'up front' with google
(or anyone other than direct ISP or OS purchased)
that allows them (or gives silent permission) to do as
they please (and for their profit not yours) with data
or to place *unbidden on your_machine*...
'tracking devices' not_unlike having some gps locator
on your car hooked to unknown 3rd parties that are
completely out of your control or in most cases even
knowing about. Go ahead and find a denial...

We need an Internet Bill of Rights...the others do not work.

Simple Adblock

Whee! Sits on bottom status bar (pfft to google ads).
(may work best on 32bit OS like XP)

This one works fine, and you can disable (by specific page)
blocking if you are on any page that you_want_to see advertising.
Not much in way of configurations...just let it run itself.

IE7pro (enhancements, if you like this sort of thing)

Put an entry into the Hosts file diverting it to local host.

There is already a large block of doubleclick URL's listed in the MVP's
hosts file :-

Richard, if using the Windows OS and IE browser the MVP's
host file will only stop a few of the ancient_type double-click
and Google cookies/tracking/data 'inside your machine/OS'
little digital gizmo's.
Go ahead and use some (non MS) file explorer to dig into
the logged on profile IEtemp directory (hidden from Windows..
and super hidden from the OS itself within secretive
(no user configurations) registry entries...
and you will find hundreds of the little cretins (cookies/gizmo's)
happily munching away with no respect for any 'HOSTS' file.

Don't mind me folks..just talking to myself here... ;)

I have to add that the HOSTS (mvp or otherwise) file
does little to nothing afaik about the Java or Macromedia
Flash (they have their own cubbyholes hiding in the OS
'Documents and Settings' (aka Demons lurk here) folders
which contains a type of cookie's and other cryptic data.

A couple of the AVG 9.0 internet security suite modules do quite a good job.
Another little "tweak" is to add every single program file to AVG's
application control list :-)

...another comment, I got rid of Sun Java runtime several months ago - and
seem to be doing fine without it !
I think that, a few weeks ago, I visited a site that did not seem to function
properly in IE8 but, (cannot remember which site it was), my view is that is
they cannot build a site that functions properly without Java, I will take my
custom elsewhere !

Richard pretended :

Here are a couple of programs that will try & copy from your damaged CD
to your hard drive. From there you can burn them to an RW CD or DVD RW.
Use ISO mode & make the CD bootable when using your burner.

Richard was thinking very hard :

Instead of updating IE, I would try this IE engined browser, I have 40
browsers installed, so there is no problem adding another. This browser
has a look & feel that is very similar to what you are used to.

Pop-ups etc )
Now go to the next section > Content Filter & tick > Enable Content
