Google support for IE6 discontinuing 1 March ?

Asked By Bets

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Type: text/plain;

I have heard Google are not going to support IE6 from 1 March and I still
use it. Can someone recommend the browser closest to it for me to download
without losing my OE6.

I am used to IE but have heard so many bad things about 7&8 ?

Also, the URL from where to download.

Thanks

Kathy

Where did you hear this? Google may not "support" IE6 but your browser
will still work with Google. Lack of support usually means a company
will not give you technical support. I searched Google help and found this:

Thanks JD for the URL. I do not remember who told me but it was
on Friday. I get told so many different things I never know what
is true or not. I am not an experienced computer user - so much I
do not know.

If I do decide to download IE7/8 will it delete Outlook Express?

Many thanks

Kathy

OE6 will not be affected by a browser upgrade, I have a
WinXP sp3 with IE8 (uptodate) and using OE6.

The Google support is no big deal..they are not the ones
that patch IE, just a few Google special features (not
search engine) will not display quite the same on IE6.

You really should update that IE6 anyway..it is not safe
for over a year now and given a 20% market share
on some 700 million online connected computers
that is around 140 million machines out of date!

IE7 is not too bad, but it is also past it is prime...IE8 is safer.

You should be able to get IE8 (and I suspect sp3 first
since that comes with IE7) on windows update link
in your start menu...you are seriously out of date
in regards to patches and Internet/OS safety.

If you lost the start menu link to Microsoft then use;
and accept any Microsoft ActiveX plugins as needed
to run the updates...do all the critical and service packs.

What bad things?

What bad things? I have installed it on a bunch of machines and have had no
problems. Plus the blocker that asks your permission before installing
potentially dangerous BHOs and other add-ons is very helpful, as is the tabbed
page approach. I like having 3 homes pages.

Hello:

The only bad thing that I found when moving from IE 6 to IE 7 was that IE 7
had a different user interface style that is a bit different from that used
by Outlook Express 6 and the Windows XP Explorer. But for me it was worth
the move to get a more secure browser than IE 6, although IE 7 is not as
secure as IE 8, and having tabbed pages, which is a great improvement.

IE 7 also starts up as quickly as IE 6 on my PC. However, I found that IE 8
takes much longer to start up than either IE 6 or 7 on my old AMD XP 2200+
PC, which is why I am staying with IE 7 until I get a new, more powerful PC.

Please note that this is only my experience on my PC, and may not apply to
others.

Cheers,
Jerry

Just what does Google "support"? And what is it about
Google that you need support for? The browser itself
or a tool bar?

And as far as IE6 versus 7 and 8, you have it backwards.
IE6 is the worst of the lot.
