Hi!
I also had a bunch of trouble ... even downloaded the complete WinXPSP3
symbols pack.
Still did not work.
To get it to work, I needed
- an existing but empty directory C:\Winnt\Symbols2
- set
_NT_SYMBOL_PATH=symsrv*symsrv.dll*C:\Winnt\Symbols2*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
- dheapinst
Afterwards, the file
C:\winnt\Symbols2\win32k.pdb\63B88C09865349A58AC30CC31DB1E1F02\win32k.pdb
existed and was correctly used.
Problem was - probably - that c:\winnt\symbols did contain a bunch of
symbols, including an incorrect version of win32k.sys.
Only using a new, empty directory for local symbol storage triggered the
download of the correct win32k.pdb.
Afterwards, I copied the files from symbols2 to symbols, and it works now.
To tell the truth, I even used tcptrace to find out where the symbols where
to be downloaded ... it was
/download/symbols/win32k.pdb/63B88C09865349A58AC30CC31DB1E1F02/win32k.pd_ on
http://msdl.microsoft.com/
I know it's been some time, anyway,
hope this helps,
Sebastian
