Windows 7 - Outlook.com

Asked By Good Guy on 03-Aug-12 10:46 PM
Has anyone tried Outlook.com yet? Apparently that is the next step for
Windows Live Mail and/or Hotmail.

No...just Hotmail.com
Windows Live Mail is a desktop application.

Outlook.com is a web interface and the replacement for Hotmail.com

Currently if you logon to Outlook.com instead of Hotmail.com (or=20
Mail.live.com) you will have access to the new Outlook.com UI. Currently =
you=20
still have the option to switch back to the older Hotmail.com web UI =
(though=20
that option may not be permanent)

Note: If you create a new @outlook.com email address you will not have =
the=20
option to switch back to the older Hotmail UI.

http://www.live.com  ???

Is it any good? Have you tried it?

Does this mean you can also have a new account like: usename@outlook.com?

So does this new outlook.com account give you something like:
username@outlook.com?

Would love to hear this soon. I like to collect important email addresses.

I did not see an option to create an outlook.com email address, merely and
alias from my hotmail account. My login is still my hotmail address and from
the web interface I can send an email from my alias and of course receive
email from my alias. I have not seen a way to send an email from my
outlook.com alias from and email client. I have not investigated closely. I
am impressed by the interface and it follows very closely Windows 365 and
the Office 2013 interface. I have been a Google/Gmail user for quite
sometime over Microsoft's online presence, but that is changing. Bing also
is shaping up as an excellent search engine with much easier to find options
for narrowing a search for a novice user and great recommendations.

See this for details
http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-outlook/archive/2012/08/03/upgrade-fr=
om-hotmail-to-outlook-com.aspx

And keep in mind..
There could be an elvis@msn.com in Memphis,TE and elvis@hotmail.com in=20
LasVegas,NV and elvis@live.com in LosAngeles,CA all wanting=20
elvis@outlook.com for a rename or alias. Compound that same username=20
@hotmail or live or msn.com which are also available in some other =
countries=20
and even further compounded for all the other domain suffixes (.jp, .kr, =
es,=20
.au, .ca, etc).
-i.e. there can only be one elvis@outlook.com, one elvis@outlook.ca and =
so=20
on for each new, renamed, alias..... a few of those elvis will succeed, =
the=20
rest will be crying in the chapel or stuck in sorrow at heartbreak =
hotel.

Create a new account is an option on http://outlook.com
Ensure you are not signed in with an existing Live ID/Microsoft account.
In your browser address bar enter http://outlook.com
Choose the option to create a new account (i.e. do not sign in with an=20
existing)

Rename is only available from the web UI.

Alias can only send mail from the web UI.

Thanks. Hopefully an option will become available to make alias's
regular addresses. If you have it as an alias right now there is not
way to make it a regular address and to use it with a client.

Enjoy the ads in the right-side panel.

Ahould've realized that Spammer Guy, er, Good Guy would not care about
ads. He (Jay Tanna) started spamming his mytaxsite domain in Usenet a
month after registering it. Time to update my anti-spam filters.

Correction: Should've.

Doubtful that will occur anytime soon.
An alias must be removed to make it available for reuse, and a time =
limit=20
exists on when it becomes available. And there is no guarantee that =
once=20
available that someone else did not grab it first.

p.s.
Only 5 alias can be created per year. It does not matter whether they =
are=20
active or removed.
Only 15 alias can be created in total, then no more, ever.

Hence why I would continue using Spamgourmet.com for aliases.
