XP SP3 (Fully Patched)

When I right click my Local Area Connections and choose "Change Windows
Firewall Settings" I get a shaded Windows Firewall that shows that the
Windows Firewall is "Off"

Now when I go to the application WLOC and choose "Change Settings" it shows
that the Firewall Protection is "On"

Which notice should I believe?

The Windows Firewall is turned off by OneCare - it has its own firewall
controlled from within OneCare.

Vista vs. OneCare Firewall Windows 7 I am an original subscriber to Windows OneCare, which I've always used with it's Firewall ON. Upon installation of an upgrade from XP to Vista, I cannot access the internet or Windows Messanger with the OneCare Firewall on - only when I shut it off. Is there a problem, do I have settings wrong somewhere, or what should I do??? - - Dale Windows Vista Security Discussions OneCare (1) XP (1) Vista (1) Firewall (1) RealPlayer (1) Windows (1) StephenB (1) RealNetwork (1) I had a problem similar but support from fellow OneCare users. -steve - - Stephen Boots MVP Windows Live Windows Live OneCare Forum Moderator sboots@mvps.org HOw soon do you expect to have a fix for OneCare?? Until then, is it safe to simply use the Windows Firewall instead of going through the steps explained on the forum site you offered??? - - Dale HOw
FTP setup to get through OC firewall Windows 7 I use WS FTP. One Care insists on setting the firewall at its highest level. That is ok but my FTP program is restricted and can t connect to the server. I tried setting the FTP program with firewall setup but that did not correct the problem. A work around is to set the OC Firewall back to unsecured network". But I would like to give my firewall permission to get through the One Care firewall. How do I do that? Programs settings in OC advanced are set to allow WS FTP. @nna Windows Live One Care Discussions Vista (1) XP (1) FTP (1) Automaticall (1) Mj4lh3l078id26rup5t0h8tpq68ksh6ulf (1) Qt4th39q7hba2109knq9rj73s61jnb6l82 (1) Moderator (1) Linkseys (1) Correction: It should say, "But I would like to give my FTP
Live OneCare. Would this replace and should I remove Microsoft's Windows Defender and Windows Firewall programs or should the Firewall program be left in? Alternative to Windows Firewall Windows 7 As has been noted, the default for the Windows Vista Firewall is to NOT block out-going traffic. Though outbound blocking can be turned on, the Windows Firewall does NOT pop up a "Allow / Disallow" window for programs trying to send outbound traffic on-line components as part of the installation process. PCTools has a free Vista-compatible firewall, but it is very buggy and, on my Vista and XP machines, blocked access to other computers on the local LAN which, of course, makes it virtually useless. Has anyone had any experience with any other free or inexpensive Vista-compatible firewall?
