Windows Live Photo Gallery Slideshow Quality

Asked By Andrew Lee

The Windows Live Photo Gallery full screen slideshow runs with much reduced
resolution on my computer, a Thinkpad laptop which is running Windows 7 and
has a high resolution screen (1600x1200). I searched and found out that
this is a known issue for both Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Live Photo
Gallery on XP and Vista on high resolution screens. Here are two links
describing the issue and fix for this problem in XP and Vista:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930102

http://chris-russell-v2.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!6318A7EEC8127EBA!406.entry?wa=wsignin1.0&sa=347726072

My computer is up to date on the video drivers, having installed Windows 7
last month and downloading the appropriate ATI driver from Windows Update.

Despite that the fix was intended for XP or Vista, I tried it anyway on my
Windows 7 computer. It did not work, so I deleted the registry entry that I
added.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem on a Windows 7 computer? The
default Windows Photo Viewer on Windows 7 works as it should (high
resolution), so I do not see why Windows Live Photo Gallery has to have this
problem. I like using Live Photo Gallery, so I'd like to be able to hit the
slideshow button and see a sharp full screen image rather than something
that looks like it came from a one megapixel camera. For now, if I want to
see a good full screen image from the Live Photo Gallery, I have to right
click (or go to "Extras"), select "Open with", and then "Choose program"
(because Windows Photo Viewer is not on the list provided), and finally
strokes.

Any help would be appreciated. If there is no fix for now, and if any
insiders are reading, consider this a fix request for the next version of
Windows Live Photo Gallery. Is there an update schedule for this program?

Thanks for the links, Andrew - I was not aware of this one.

Thanks for the links, Andrew - I was not aware of this one. I would think that
the registry fix should have worked if you have the problem described. I do not
think that the latest available WLPG distinguishes Windows 7 from Vista, but I
could be wrong. Sadly, I can test it since I have never experienced the problem.

A new version will probably be released to beta testing some time early next
year with a final mid-2010 or so - based on current rumors floating about.

I finally found the fix to this problem with the help of a lady from
Microsoft posting on Microsoft Answers. It took a month to finally figure
things out. Here is the thread that I started::

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wlmedia/thread/c7aeb0b1-5a63-4e1a-a5c0-0fe22f3c42d6/?prof=required

Note that they put a copy of her answer as the second message in the list,
but it makes more sense if you skip that initially and read through the
thread to the end (reading all the messages in chronological order).

Andrew

Thanks for posting that here, Andrew.

Thanks for posting that here, Andrew.
The second copy of the forum post that is marked "answer" can be eliminated in
your prefernces for the Answers forum. The default choice is to duplicate the
post and place it immediately after the question/initial post. I prefer to
disable that view.
