Windows Live Sync will not remember password after reboot

Asked By Dave

Hello,
I have migrated many users and PCs from FolderShare to Windows Live Sync. I
have one PC that will not remember the password. After every reboot the
Windows Live Sync signon appears with a blank e-mail address and password. I
have entered the e-mail address, password and checked remember my password
countless times but it will not remember it. I have also gone through the
process of associating the .net pasport to the windows login but that does
not help. this PC is a relatively new Windows XP home PC. but I have a mix
of Vista, windows XP Pro & home clients that do not have this problem. I
have also uninstalled and reinstalled WLS.

any suggestions?

Hi, DaveF

One thing I'm curious is that after sign in to Sync with remember my
password checked, have you used the same LiveID account for other Windows
Live application(Mail, Photo Gallery, etc) including
website(www.hotmail.com, skydrive.live.com, etc) to sign in?

Can you try following steps?
1. Start Sync
2. Sign in with remember my password checked
3. Click Sync icon on the systray -> More -> Settings -> General tab
4. Make sure "Automatically run Windows Live Sync when I log on the Windows"
is checked.
5. Logout and Logon

Does Sync auto sign in this time without asking username/password?

Thanks!

I'm curious on how this played out. I'm also having problems everytime I
turn on my computer, I'm asked to sign in again. I've read the posts here
and nothing needed to be changed. I'm curious on what they found or you
needed to do to get this resolved.

Hi Folks,

Wondering if this issue has been resolved and the possible solution /
workaround.

We have been testing out Windows Live Sync, but seem to be having a problem
with "remembering the username / password" after a reboot on a laptop running
MS Windows Vista Business.

There is no such problem with desktops running MS Windows XP Professional.

Hi everyone,
I have checked this thread every couple of days hoping someone has found the
solution to this problem. Every couple of days another one of my machines
fall into this bucket of annoyance dropping the livesync account info. The
machines that have this problem are all XP Home and I can't find the common
cause. I realize LiveSync is a free piece of the Windows Live offerings so I
am sensitive to the timeliness of issues being resolved and occasional
outages but come on - at some point I will have to abandon the tool by
putting it in the "good concept but too big a hassle" category.

Hi Mark, I'm not sure it matters really what the computers/laptops run, at
least I've found it doesn't matter on my end. Anyway, this problem still
exists on my desktop but my laptop has no problems signing in automatically.
I went through quite an extensive check with an MSF and I'm still having
problems. Initially, I was able to get on automatically told them everything
was fine, but the next time I rebooted my computer, no such luck. I was told
that it had something to do with my password in that I might be using it for
other Windows programs but that doesn't seem to be the real issue because I
have changed my password and I'm still having sign-on problems. I'm not sure
they really know what the deal is to be quite honest with you. Sorry, no
solution so far.

I'm still having issues with signing in. I would have thought this would be
resolved by now but apparently not. Am considering going with another
program. FS/WLS is a great little program, but signing in pretty much
everytime I turn on my computer is a bit much. I was hoping for a patch or
something to bypass this problem. It appears to me they aren't sure how to
figure it out either. So sad...

Sorry for any inconvenience.
We identified the root cause and fixed the issue locally, so next release (not sure when) will have the fix for sure.

This issue tends to occur with “Automatically detect settings” in LAN setting, so if you know the machine is not behind a proxy and
“Automatically detect settings” in LAN setting(inetcpl.cpl -> Connections tab), then uncheck "Automatically detect settings" might
help. Please give it a try.

Thanks

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your feedback. I concur with your observation to a certain extent
... we have installed Windows Live Sync on a number of desktops / laptops
running different flavours of MS Windows XP / Vista.

Fortunately, we have only two cases where the login password is not being
attributed it to the use of a wireless network connection.

The problem disappears if we switch to a wired connection.

intermittent and not reproducible its mere non-appearance for some period
is not proof of cure. But thanks for the suggestion.

IE Won't Remember Username / Password After Reboot

I had the same problem after reboot and the following fix resolved it. Download the .zip file (it scans clean but for your safety have your own anti-virus scan the .zip file before opening as hopefully always) then open the .zip and run the program. Within about 10 seconds it will confirm you want to reboot. Reboot. After reboot IE saves all usernames and passwords for websites, databases, etc. again. It's an amazing program and it does work. Here's where to download:

upgrade to IE 8 induced this problem

Sync was working great on my laptop until I "upgraded" from IE 6 to IE 8. Sync was great because it was so slick simple and seamless - no it is becoming burdensome. It's a shame microsoft isn't more interested in basic maintenance on this software - this is clearly a long standing issue.

Hi,

I had the same problem here. My Win XP Pro machine had Firefox as default browser. I noticed someone mentioning to try to logon the live.com and about cookies... I set Internet Explorer back as default browser, logged onto live.com (and had to enter my password) and everything worked fine after a reboot.

Sounds like a Microsoft solution??? But it worked for me.

I had the same problem on a Win XP Pro machine. I noticed someone mentioning something about visiting live.com and cookies. I had Firefox as default browser.
