I have not had any problems today until later in the evening where it seemed to
take a very long time to sign in. What are you seeing, oppiman, if you are still
having a problem now?

Hi Steve,
it said "waiting for server" on systems that had been logged in, and it
could not log on at all on systems that have been rebooted.
This went on for a few hours. I am in Germany so probably nobody in the US
has seen this as it was too early.

That does sound like a server side or network issue. I do not now if there was
any maintenance going on. I assum that it is working for you today?

Yes, it works again.
I really heavily rely on that service.

This evening there was apparently something going on server side, at least for
my account as all of my PCs were "signing in" and when I went to sync.live.com
it advised that there was a problem, check back later. I checked back about 30
minutes later and all was well again. I would not have noticed it except that I
had an XP machine that had not been powered up for a bit, so it needed the new
client software, which I was unable to get at that point. I got it when I
checked back 30 minutes later...

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why? If you use both XP and 7, do you ever plan on ditching XP for good? What will you do when support is dropped to the point where this OS will be problematic with new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until SP1. Even then, I find the moron-babysitting did not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . . OT] Windows 7 [Off topic.] Where can I view a list of XP updates with a simple explanation of what each one does? I cannot find an simple overview of XP updates on Microsoft's website. Here are some more details . . . . My PC runs on an old AMD Duron 1800. I run XP and have stayed on SP2 because the system is so fragile that it might not be able to recover from any problems with SP3. In July SP2 stopped receiving XP updates but yesterday I applied the Sean Sullivan registry tweak which lets me get them Where can I view a simple list showing one or two lines about what each XP update does? Chkdsk / Scandisk Windows 7 I still use Windows98 most of the time. I am not fond of XP, but I have XP on my laptop computer, and must keep it to use the WIFI. One thing that really irks me about XP is that it no longer has Scandisk. Chkdsk is really a major pain to use dropped it in favor of this worthless and annoying Chkdsk. . . . .
