I have Vista Home Premium (32-bit & Build 6000) and the Windows Media Centre
is coming up with dvd decoder error when ever I try and play any dvd. It used
to work fine a week ago, but all of a sudden it stopped playing dvds and
comes up with the dvd decoder error. The computer is only ever hooked up to
the internet.
What is wrong?
How do/can I fix the problem?
Please help?
Many thanks
Mike

You can determine what default decoder is installed with the help of
the following utility:-
Vista Media Center Decoder utility

You can select an alternative decoder from a list of installed decoders.

Windows installer 3.1 & IE7 fails to install Windows 7 3 weeks ago I upgraded my motherboard, processor, RAM & display card. Since I can't clean install a new windows XP cause my old system has all needed programs & settings to my needs (very hard I used to option of repair install, inserted the XP CD that gave me "upgrading windows", & all went OK, new drivers installed, removed old ones. Funny thing is my IE7 is goes till the point where registry editing starts & stops installation & rolls back changes to IE6 & windows restarts. . Same when I try to update Windows installer to 3.1, it stops installation at the point or registry changing & rolls back account, how come? Why both installation stops at the registery editing point? Linux Mint: great splash screen. . .but won't work. Sticking withWindows XP. Windows 7 Tried Linux Mint today on the Live CD. I had just downloaded this Live out, it had a great, beautiful splash screen. Nice graphics. I also develop apps for Windows and I can tell you making a program look good is a big deal. Hat thankful that the programmers did not do something stupid like try and automatically reformat my Windows XP OS HD on my Pentium IV 2.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM and or so dots that blink; then, 2:45 seconds later (unacceptably long, and longer than Windows XP takes on my machine) you get a menu, which has icons for 'install Linux from the manufacturer. Any ideas why I could not access the internet? Upon reboot into Windows, I found the net no problem as evidenced by this post. Some speculation: perhaps my here in Athens, Greece, requires some sort of special drivers for Linux. I did load Windows XP with a driver on a CD that came from them initially, to configure my CD? Why the fail then? Any advice "appreciated". As for now, I am sticking to Windows and will recommend Windows to this girl that needs my help setting up her system, which also is a
