Restrictions set by the broadcaster or originator of the content..

Hi,
Recently (in the last week), when I record programs with MCE in Vista (most
notibly the scifi channel) partway in the recording I get the following
message "Restrictions set by the broadcaster or originator of the content
prohibit playback of the program on this computer". This is an orignal
recording (as I just recorded it.) I have recorded thousands of programs on
these channels with no problem. Is there a fix other then the kb 950126 for
this because it doesn't fix the issue. I did find a post reply by Tim
Schreck (Media Center SE) on March 21 saying they were aware of this issue
and were trying to fix it, but it doesn't appear that its fixed yet. Are
they still working on it? Is there an actual fix? I need some help here, I
need my SCIFI!

is this only happening on the SciFi channel? I am hoping that they
get this potential fix out ASAP.

Its also happening on the TNT network. I'll be watching something and then
it will just deny me. Searched in Google I did find another person(s) that
are experiencing the same thing. Can we get some Microsoft Assistance here,
Tim Schreck can you weigh in on this?

It appears that you cable provider is no longer providing free of charge
channels for which it has to pay a per subscriber fee.
Since your current post contains no details as to how your receiving these
programs are being received any other explanations would just be a guess.

My Cable Provider is Cox Communications.
My specs:
Quad Core 2.40 Ghz
8 Gigs of Memory
Vista Ultimate 64Bit
nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC/QAM Combo
Antec 1k Powersupply
Antec 1200 Serious Case
Bucket Seats
Moon Roof
I did notice a Nvidia Driver Update that just came out.. I wonder if it
changed the codex's for WMC?
Are you using a set top box to receive your cable?

Are you using a set top box to receive your cable? Or is it a direct cable
connection?

An Nvidia graphics card driver update would have absolutely nothing to do
with what decoder is being used by MC to decode a TV signal being received
by a Hauppauge TV tuner code
Again it would be helpful to know which tuner(s) in your 1600 tuner card you
are trying to use to receive TV in your car with the moon roof.

I just had the same issue while watching the episodes of King of the Hill and
Family Guy I just recorded. One stopped about about 10 minutes in and gave me
the "Restricted Content" message. The othe did the same about 20 minutes in.

Ok I think I may have figured it out, (ok my brother who is smarter then me
help but don't tell him I'll deny it.). It seems that if you do anytype of
major system upgrades (motherboards, chips , moving the TV Tuner card etc..)
it screws up the key created by WMC to identify your broad casts. So I just
so happens that about a week before this started happening I moved the
contents of my computer into a new case (the Antec 1200 which is such a pimp
case you should really check it out if you get a chance it has a 200mm fan on
top and the power supply is mounted on the bottom away from the CPU..). So I
went into WMC and re-setup my TV Tuner card. I Put the Sci-Fi Channel on for
all of Saturday and all of Sunday and no restriction messages. I am going to
continue to see if I get any but I think its fixed.
Hi there,I'm having exactly the same problem.

Hi there,
I'm having exactly the same problem. My motherboard died, so i transferred
the disk to my laptop ( via external USB based case ) and have started to get
this error when watching previously recorded content. Did you ever fix this -
or did you end up just cycling your shows over time? - Microsoft, what are
your thoughts / suggestions in this situation. As a side note, my cable
company does not set any flags, so any DRM issues are contained in the
Microsoft space.
Thanks

It did fix it.

It did fix it. You need to re-setup your TV card in WMC (the normal setup)
it will re-create the key, but your old recordings will probably not work
correctly.
