Windows 7 - ATI TV Wonder 600 USB-IR Hardware not detected

ok, so I just bought 'this tuner'
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815306011) and
I am having problems getting it to work.
So, heres my setup. Cable (direct tv) running in from the wall, going
to the cable box. Then S-video and white/red composite running to the
USB tuner. USB tuner plugged into the PC. simple setup.
So I open WMC (windows media center) and go to set up TV signal. Set
zip, pick cable, set manually, select S-video video. I get a preview
video with sound. YAY ALLS WORKING! I hit next, and get "IR hardware not
detected" and can go no further. Wont let me finalize setup. =(
Now I can use the remote that came with the tuner to navigate WMC yet
its saying its not detected?
Please help, im running outta hair to pull out.
Thanks!!!

When doing a setup for something other than direct connection (OTA antenna
or cable coax), you need to have an MC compatible remote kit, which would
include the IR Receiver/Blaster needed to complete your setup. It sounds
like the remote you got with tuner is not an MC compliant one. Here is an
example of a MC remote kit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880121001
You can see it includes the receiver and emitter (blaster) needed to control
your set top box, without those MC has no way to change the channels.
You can work around this by using a coax connection, tell MC that you have
an antenna connection, and leave the MC computer tuned to channel 3/4 (which
ever your cable box uses) and just manually change the channels on the cable
box, but that kind of defeats one of the points of having a DVR (i.e.,
unattended recordings).

Only the Cable (direct tv) Box can Tune Channels not USB tuner. For it need
to be on Channels 3 or 4, Or s-video, and or Composite
So Cable to Direct tv, or ATT, Comcast ex.ex..ex... From it to TV or usb
tuner by cable, s-video, and or Composite.
Pick Channels at direct tv remote view on PC.
I made be wrought for Direct tv But I right for ATT and Comcast
Now if Comcast, Runner, Mom and POP Cable ,,, You do not Need the Cable Box
// it wall to USB tuner just Auto Scan and pick Channels
use the remote that come with it here.
But ATT will not Work this way it need the BOX
Now IR hardware not detected the remote that not detected .
You need to run USB tuner Software so it can give windows the Drive to make
it Work mmmmm

Jaime replied to Hot-text
Not sure what is 1/2 right, you repeated what I said.
BTW, you need to find different translation software, the one you are using
does not seem to do a very good job :o)

I can only hope that I get to the issue of the remote, however I cannot
seem to pick up any channels at all. I click on the scan for
channels(choosing antenna) And nothing happens.
I am running on XP pro
Everyhting up to that point seems to go fine ie: detects the unit after
the software is installed
when I exit the program after the channel scan it asks if i want to run
setup next time... am i rushing too much and not waiting long enough?

I can wait for the issue of the remote however I am having the issue
with channel scan and the unit not picking up any stations.
I ran the software on XP pro and all went fine it then detects the
hardware but when the setup runs it seems to hang at scanning,... i
cannot do the next part as it seems to hang and if I select the exit it
asks if I want to run setup again later.... am I rushing it too much and
just need to wait?
I select the antenna option.
Not sure if I tried the Cable option yet.

I believe your tuner is a hybrid tuner so you it can receive either analog
or digital tuner at one time.
With an antenna there may not longer be any analog channels available OTA in
your location.
Have you tried scanning only for digital OTA channels?
Jaime replied to Mudslinger
You said, "...detects the unit after the software is installed when I exit
the program after the channel scan..."
What software do you mean? Media Center or some ATI or other 3rd party
software?
I assume you mean Media Center (since this is a Media Center forum), MCE
2005 forces you to have one analog tuner installed, before you can use a
digital tuner. If you are scanning for analog (and in the U.S.), it is
probably not going to find any analog channels.

Vista Media Center / Haupauge wintv-hvr-1600 IR receiver problem Windows 7 Hi, a quick search yielded no useful info, so here goes: Vista up atsc first & that's working fine, including control using the 1600's remote & IR receiver. Tried to add my satellite receiver, using RF out to analog RF in on the 1600 (will switch to a / v satellite signal, but balks at the next step, saying it can't detect the IR receiver. (The IR receiver works fine when tuning the atsc receiver & controlling the various MC setup functions, recording, playback, etc). Is there any way to convince MC that it can already see the IR receiver? can I remove Media Center from Windows XP Media Center Edition? Windows 7 I have XP MCE 2005, but don't use the Media Center. It has always had glitches and and I hate it with all my heart and soul. I understand that MCE is XP Pro with Media Center injected- can I get rid of media center, and retain XP Pro? Barring that, if I buy a copy of just plain XP Pro, without the key, can I use my XP MCE key with it to install, or do I have to also get a new create problems with updates? Or, lastly, is there a way to reinstall my own original XP MCE without installing media center (is it optional)?
