Not really a Media Center related question.

If you removed the Internet Sharing and bought a Router and installed in
your network you would have a lot less problems with internet and
network sharing.

Four port (4 computers) Routers start at around $50-60 in the USA.

Nintendo Wii through his internet connection, & from Nintendo, understand that a couple of Belkin wireless routers are not compatible. Thanks again Yes, you can set up a wireless network with this your husband's cave if you can get an unobstructed line of sight from a window in the main house to a window in the cave. It's not as difficult as it looks - - but print this out not know of any home router that connects to a modem using USB. Almost all routers expect to connect to the modem using an Ethernet cable (or, in the case of dial-up, perhaps by a serial connection). There are wireless routers that accept the PC-card style broadband modem, but none that I know of that have. Therefore, what you will need to do is set up Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on one of your computers. This computer must be powered on and active (not in cave, " the wireless router (or at least its antenna) should be in front of a window facing the "cave" with no intervening obstructions (like trees). At the same time, the tiny your USB720 probably also will work best if it is higher up and near a window. (The USB720 does have a connection for an external antenna if that proves to be

Some firewalls, such as free ZoneAlarm, are incompatible with ICS on the host computer. - - Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any com> , I've set up lots of networks that do File and Printer Sharing with ICS, and I don't know of any limitations that would prevent it or prevent mapping Thanks Steve! You lead me to the source of the problem. I have only windows firewall enabled and it has File and printer sharing among its allowed exceptions. When not using ICS, the firewall causes no problems. With ICS and windows firewall I get "System error 53
Windows 7 Incompatible Routers Hi there, can someone explain to me how a router can be incompatible with Vista How toHow to disable TCP / IPv6 · How to Disconnect Vista VPN connection · How to disable ICS public connection . . . How to disable Vista firewall using Group Policy . . . www.howtonetworking.com / vista / vista.htm - - Bob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE surely IPv6 is a network protocol and has nothing to with Microsoft or Vista? Hi Routers are Not platform independent. They are actually small computers (usually comparable to P-II) with and very small memory. Depending on how the OS and the managing software were written Routers can be incompatible with other OS' or codes. Jack (MVP-Networking). Ahh. . .NO! Routers architecturally are independent from the end systems. There may be new technology that comes about mandatory to maintain the stability of a network. - - BobF. Hi Are you referring to Real Routers or to the so called Cable / DSL Routers? I was referring to the Entry Level Cable / DSL (so called ) Routers. Jack (MVP-Networking
It also provides a measure of protection by using Network Address Translation (NAT) and many routers also provide some type of firewall. If you want to continue as you have been, however, you probably need to re-configure Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the computer to which the cable modem is connected. For confirmation, on the *second computer, open a command prompt window and type If ICS is working, the IP address of the second computer should be of the form 192 address Windows assigns when it can't connect to a DHCP server. To set up ICS, see http: / / www.practicallynetworked.com / sharing / xp_ics / http: / / support.microsoft.com / kb / 306126 / http: / / support

Set SPI and / or NAT Hardware Firewall to ON (these should be factory settings), this helps keep Hackers Out of your Network him to (this is your Network Address Translation -NAT- and Stateful Packet Inspection -SPI- Hardware Firewall which is built-into many Routers). The Internet is Outside the door, and your Local-Area Network is Inside the Nightclub Network(SSID) and click CONNECT.
