Windows 7 - Should I Upgrade to WMP 11?

Asked By opieand on 06-Mar-07 11:04 PM
I've only read bad things here, and of course, the Microsoft site doesn't
even provide any sort of comparision of 10 to 11, or a "what's new," or any
morsel of guidance whatsoever on the differences. WMP 10 is working fine for
me and has been for years, is there any reason to change?

Thanks,

Chris

Only if you like pretty pictures.

Actually, I do like the album art in WMP 11. But the problems with the
implementation of that feature, along with all the other broken or missing
features, make it frustrating for me and many others.

For real use, I am sticking with WMP 9 and 10. For development only, I use
WMP 11.

Thanks, Dale, that confirms my thinking based on what I have read here.

If you are going to use Windows Vista then you will have WMP 11 foisted on
you whether you like it or not :-(

... And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was
Windows Vista, and WMP11 followed with him. And power was given unto them
over 95% of computers, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death,
and with the beasts of Redmond ...

Pros:
Nice Album art preview in library
Enhanced syncronise [i think, idont have ipod/potable] yet

Cons:
Lost of Info center view in WMP9 [ Dear Dale can't you solve it]
Advanced Tag Editor not included [ solution: must download via wmplugins.com]
Likely more slower updating picture album art to reside in folder[honest..]

Same problem still not solved same in WMP9 and WMP11.
Bad request 400 in several mpeg3 files. [Dale what is it cause te problem?]
dale097 replied on 07-Mar-07 12:27 PM
I don't see any difference between synchronization in WMP 10 and
synchronization in WMP 11.

Dear Dale can't resolve anything. All I can do is empathize (editorialize)
with you and, when I know a work around to a problem/bug, share it with you.
That's pretty much all any of us here can do.

Advanced Tag Editor is included. It does have reduced capability compared
to WMP 10, though.

Neil would be better at answering your online media questions. So would
many others that use more online media. I'm not a big online video person
because my Internet connection sucks and I can't sit still long enough to
watch a video anyway.

Advanced Tag Editor is there.

Hmm strange..
i dont get the advanced tag editor included[i install wmp11 offline].

Yup, really sucks the info center gone in wmp11, since the lyrics windows so
small that one must scroll it to see...

the lyrics windows cannot be resized. meanwhile the infocenter lyrics is
huge enough to see.. :(

another cons:
find album info only works in library interface, the song should be included
in library [not in now playing interface]
zachd [MSFT] replied on 08-Mar-07 12:32 PM
Advanced Tag Editor cannot be removed from the install. You'd want to be
in the library view and looking at local files.

windows media player 11 is BY FAR the WORST media player i have ever used.
if i want to open more than 1 file at a time, it take a few seconds of
loading... and WMP just never opens.. it loads but never opens, YES i have
re-installed multiple times and i havent found any way to fix it.
also, all their stupid choices on the menu is the worst setup, so inconvenient
i cant access my playlists.. i have to literrally go into my music folder
and find my playlist and open it.... and if im lucky it will open
..im not the only one with these problems.. ALL my friends have had the same
problem...
my advice DELETE THIS WORTHLESS PROGRAM
hell this makes me not want to EVER use a microsoft media player program at
all, ive went through so much trouble
obviously the person designing it never uses it or they would know its a
horrible prog.
stick with WMP 9 or 10... hell even iTunes is better

In the Library view, at the left where it says Playlists, right-click on the
word Playlists and choose Show All.
