Windows 7 - Updates: the simple fix for me.

I'm no techie, but I read a lot last week when we were having various
trouble-symptoms after installing anew or re-installing Windows XP atop
itself. Some cases had ~76 updates we could not install; others had ~95;
still others had ~ 36 and even as few as 9 and 4.
The following is something I tried after finding it on a ng forum. Hope
it helps others--if it does, PLEASE read other posts and copy/paste the
procedure in answer to them (as well as back here to let others know if it
worked for your symptoms or not), as since it was a simple fix for me, it
may be also for others.
in a previous email on this site (see Joe Medford - 8.10.07) - it worked.
1. Click on Start and then click Run,
2. In the open field type "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" (without quotation marks) and
press Enter.
3. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message,
click OK.
4. Please repeat these steps for each of the following commands:
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL"......Good luck to all, s

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to save it in the event of
trouble. I would caution you, though, in misusing what appear to
be Registry Service DLLs unless you really need to. Yes, yes,
yes, I know I'm overly cautious, but I'm also trouble-free and I
like life that way. <grin>

I had the same problem and cured it by start>control panel>security> then
changing Automatic Update to "Download updates for me, but let me choose when
to install them"
The downloads then installed.
I think the root of the problem is that by default the Automatic Update
install was set to 03:00 which meant that any downloads carried had to wait
for the correct time to install. This was evident from looking at the Windows
update log, so I have now changed this to19:00

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why? If you use both XP and 7, do you ever plan on ditching XP for good? What will you do when support is dropped to the point where this OS will be problematic with new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until SP1. Even then, I find the moron-babysitting did not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . . Chkdsk / Scandisk Windows 7 I still use Windows98 most of the time. I am not fond of XP, but I have XP on my laptop computer, and must keep it to use the WIFI. One thing that really irks me about XP is that it no longer has Scandisk. Chkdsk is really a major pain to use dropped it in favor of this worthless and annoying Chkdsk. . . . . cannot access WINDOWS UPDATE successfully . . . keeps soliciting New!Get Microsoft Update today! Windows 7 I am running Windows XP SP3 Home Edition on 1 of 4 PC's and it is been updated through early April 2011. Prior to this, accessing Windows Updates (via http: / / www.update.microsoft.com / windowsupdate / v6 / default.aspx?ln = en-us) worked to understand why. Recently, around the middle of April 2011, each time I went to Windows Update, the page initially appears and I can briefly see the 2 buttons (of which Get Microsoft Update today!" I have no interest in Microsoft Update for my PC running XP SP3 Home Edition because my other 3 PC's, all running Windows XP SP3 Professional with Internet Explorer 6 are having no problems with Windows Update.
