Windows 7 - KB941649 Installation issues

Asked By Asif200

I was today requested to install the recommended update KB941649 for Vista.
But after downloading and installing I restarted my laptop as request but
upon restart the messge "configuring update" appears and the computer after 1
-2 mins or so restarts again and the login page appears and I login.

When I check the status of the download it says failed with the error code
8007007e.

After checking the forums I have deleted the SoftwareDistribution directory
and also downloaded the update and tried installing it manually but got the
same problem.

Any help would be appreciated

See if running the System File Checker resolves the issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212

Under 'More Information' read the instructions for
' The System File Checker tool '

Tried this - got to 3% and said it could not complete the scan.
Now what can I try?

Completely and TOTALLY disable the installed antivirus/security
software. Consult the Help file or the manufacturer's web site to learn
how to accomplish this. This includes all Services run by the Antivirus.

If you feel uncomfortable being connected to the net/network with the AV
disabled, then disconnect it while the System File Checker does it's thing.

This compatibility issues is not limited just to operating systems, Such as PC games purchaced at the store or downloaded. Where are the Vista backward patches? Where are the XP forward patches.
