Hi,

I'm running on WinXP x64 SP2 and have installed all available updates (+ie7,
mp11).

Now when I start windowsupdate over Tools->Windows Update, the following
site is opened:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/de/default.asp
The search for update is quitted by an fault (no description).

Normally, the following page should be opened:
http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx%3Fln=de

Can anybody help me???

(cross-post added to 64bit General)

What is the User-Agent involved? (E.g. use Fiddler2.)
Perhaps there is something confusing about it which makes WU
assume it is the least capable browser?

Try using a User-Agent spoof? (e.g. ref. KB923196)

Cross-posting to a 64-bit NG in case this is already a known issue.

Good luck

Windows 7 KB940157 Install Fails with Error Code 0x05 I am running XP Professional (x64) with service pack 2 installed. I have tried to install (via Microsoft Update) KB940157, Windows Search 4.0, multiple times with no success. It always fails with Error Code: 0x05 I have also tried downloading the update and installing it manually as well. I suspect it's a problem with access permissions be a problem. . .apparently I was wrong. Todd Do you have an earlier version of Windows Desktop Search still installed? If so, which version? You told us more in the other Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0)? Does WindowsUpdate.log (or the installation log for the update-in-question) give any other Error numbers? How long have you been having problems installing
