Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) Update

Asked By tbog

I have installed this update that came out yesterday several times and when
it is installed I have no audio on my computer. When I remove this update and
do a system restore my audio works just fine. Wondering if anyone else is
running into this problem and if there is a way to fix this. My computer is a
Gateway GM5472 running Windows Vista Home Premium. My audio is Realtek HD
Audio Driver Version 6.0.1.5361. Any help would be appreciated.

And that is one of the drivers having issues.

Go to Microsoft update and get the realtek audio driver that is offered
up to you. I did yesterday.

Hi, This happened to me too but was easily fixed.

Hi,

This happened to me too but was easily fixed. The sound had been disabled in
device manager. I simply right clicked 'My computer' which is on my desktop,
,selected 'device manager', then right clicked on the realtek sound icon and
clicked 'enable' and it reloaded fine. Hope this works for you.

I think SP1 disables some drivers to prevent conflicts during install but
this one doesn't come back on automatically.

I tried installing this pack again and it froze my computer up.

I tried installing this pack again and it froze my computer up. When windows
restarted it got hung up and would not load windows. I had no choice but to
crash my computer and start all over again. Now I cannot load Realtek Audio
because when I download the program from Realtek and install it...windows
vista says it cannot locate the file to install it. A disk was not supplied
when I bought this computer. How do I install Realtek Audio again?
Sorry you are still having problems. Are you sure you need to download drivers?

Sorry you are still having problems.

Are you sure you need to download drivers? SP1 did nit remove my drivers,
it just disabled the soundcard in device manager. Also, if the drivers are
necessary shouldn't you download from here:
http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21650&dscr=Realtek%20High%20Definition%20Audio%20Driver%20version:%206.0.1.5361&uid=190619791

If that doesn't do the trick maybe its not worth the update for now. You
should be able to uninstall sp1.

Good luck.

I've tried 3 times to install vista service pack 1.
First 2 times i had to restore comp to get anything to work,,
last time comp completely trashed, had to use installation disk to restore.
This appears to have worked , and service pack 1 as been removed.
Thanks so much for your comments.

I tried to install Vista servicepack from my new labtop- Acer Travelmate
6492. I am looking for this solution for two weeks now Im consider to go
back to XP because there was no problem. At first i update it throught
the update of MS. It failed. The Computer hang for two days before I
reboot it. This happend several times. Everytimje it hangs . When I did
it manually, it give me the error code ox800700d. I follow all the steps
that the person gave on this site. Nothing helped. I disabled all the
external devices such as cameras, etc. Nothing help. I uninstall the
virus program , Nothing. I contact Acer tech - not any solution. I reset
the computer and gave up all my data en did a recovery - Still the same.
At this moment I update the Computer again. It looks like if its hanging
again (for almost a day now). with the screen "Installing update 1 of
1...." So it was the same as previous. I was frustrated for the few
days I used the vista without update it. Please- is there anybody with
the same problem or is there some one out there with good advice! (Iam
working from my old computer now - !!!)

If you have a new Laptop odds are it already has SP1 installed since
Computer Vendors started shipping new systems with it installed about a year
ago when it was released.
What release number does windows help say you have installed?

Curious

The release number is :

Windows Vista Business
Copyright@ 2006 Microsoft Corporation.

So it does not say that it has servicepack 1 . Everytime the updater
shows automatic that it must update top vista servicepack 1

Hi, Corrie.

That is: Hold the Windows logo key down, like a Shift key, while you press
the Pause/Break key (in the upper right area on most keyboards). This
should pop up the System Properties window. There you can read the exact
version of Windows that you are running.

Or, press the <Win> key, type in "winver" and press Enter. That also will
tell you the exact version you are running.

I don't know what a "release number" is.

Many times it is driver issues that cause the install to fail. Download the
SP to your drive, run MSconfig and disable all non microsoft services,
re-boot and then try the install. That worked on my HP notebook. Once the SP
is installed you can re-enable all the services
