Windows 7 - Computer constantly reboots after updates

I have windows vista.  I tried to do a windows update.  There were about 34
updates.  The computer now is constantly shutting down and starting up.  The
screen at startup says that it is configuring updates stages 1-3 but shows no
progress and at stage 3 reboots.  This has been happening over and over for
more than 1 hour. Is this normal or is it in a loop?
