When I bought my Pc the store set it up for me. They use the one name but I
want it in another name. I have changed some thing but don’t know how to
change all the name places in Vista.

Go to Start, type regedit, press enter and navigate to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion and in the
right pane, right-click RegisteredOwner and Modify the value. Create a system
restore point before making the change, just in case you have finger problems.
You can also change Registered Organization.

Hi, I just got my laptop Saturday - had Best Buy set it up for too much $$$.
Anyway, they spelled my name incorrectly. I was able to do this operation
as you directed and I am now spelled ok as the administrator. However, I've
noticed that my printer files still have the incorrect spelling. Looking
through some of the stuff I see there is a whole bunch of files that still
show the incorrect spelling. Is there some other "master" area that I can
either change or delete it? Thanks.

No. You can change the name of your account in the display areas, but you
cannot change the account name on the account's file structure. There are
just too many references to these files/folders on the system.

I tried this, but it didn't work. I was able to change the name that I see
on start up and in most places where I see the user name, but when I open the
taskbar, the user name is different. Why is it so hard to change in vista?
Is there any other way to do it? My story is the same as the others
replying to this post.

The original question was "How do I change the registered owner"? To which
I replied.
You can change names in applications, e.g. Word, by going to the personal
details, etc.

Lori, Did you ever find out how to change owner names?
Installed Vista dual boot, think I screwed up! Windows 7 Hey gang, I think I have messed up here. I just installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate, retail full version, in what I thought was a dual boot environment. I added a new sata hard drive, and installed Vista on it. Now, I do not get an option when I boot to choose wich OS to boot to, it only boots into Vista. Under Vista, it shows as my C drive, I see the partion on the other hard drive my XP Pro is on, however under Vista it shows as drive E? Dangit, I thought I had read enough to know what I installed mine. If you don't have dual boot, it usually means that the Vista installation did not see your XP drive (was it unplugged?) if so that's just and choose the XP drive to boot to XP. If I don't do anything Vista will boot first. If worst comes to worst, use VistaBootPro on your Vista drive to

Lions and Tigers and Vista. . . . Oh my!! Windows 7 Hello, I am getting the hebbie-jebbies reading all this dialogue about the dissatisfied customers of Vista and those reverting back to XP. We recently purchased a Gateway with Vista pre-installed. It is still sitting here on the floor waiting to get up and it up and send it back!! I now know from reading in the discussion group, Vista is not compatible with Picture It 2002 which is an ultimately important feature that I years ago on my present Gateway with the XP system. I have recently learned that Vista will probably not be compatible with my printer which is a HP 1315 All In feat to revert back to XP when the new computer is already pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and some deem it a very stupid option. If I decide to do well. Although it appears that there are some very staunch activists on the side of Vista, it also seems very clear that it is a very popular opinion that Microsoft has done its customers a disservice by marketing Vista. I suppose the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' seems
tired of this. . . Windows 7 I've been a Microsoft fan for years but this Vista situation has just done it for me. I bought a new top-of -the-line laptop with Vista on it. The amount of pain I've put up with over the past couple 3 other machines. I know the reader may be bad but my gripe is that Vista goes merrily on its way without even mentioning that something didn't work. I need A to B, I either have to be real quick about it or wait until Vista gets over its presumption that what I really wanted was this or that part of the tree expanded. You've got about a second before Vista moves everything on you. You have to wait with your item selected until all this and then go hunt down your destination directory again. Then wait again to be sure Vista isn't going to move everything again. I don't know how many times the been through all this a time or two. Considering the transition from XP SP2 to Vista, I have never seen so many things get broken all at once. Vista does not make things better or easier - quite the reverse. I now spend more time
