Help With ATI Radeon Driver for a Thinkpad-x31

Upgraded from windows/xp.
ATI Radeon Video (16mg) - unable to determine exact model number.
Windows/xp current ATI driver version 10.xx.xx causes Blue Screen of Death
problems in Vista, faulting module is at3xxx.dll.

Attempt to upgrade to ATI 7.3 Catalyst results in setup hanging in
Detectionmanager.dll which is part of the Catalyst setup application.

ATI of no assistance, refered me to my notebook computer manufacturer.

Downgrading to Windows/VGA has it own set of problems, certain apps, eg.
'google earh' will not run.

Any help will be appreciated!!

ATI's response was correct. You need to contact Lenovo tech support. In
most cases you will not want to install drivers from the device mftr. if
you have an OEM computer, particularly a laptop. Lenovo tech support is
excellent.

for support links for my specific model laptop.

Understand. Unfortunately the links point me back to the XP dirver that is
causing the Blue Screen Problems. Although the Thinkpad x31 is listed as
Vista compatible, there isn't a Vista video driver listed. I did place a
'bug' request on the Lenovo site. I will also call again the Lenovo help
line. The last time that I called, when they determined that I purchased
Vista from a retailer, they advised me to go to Microsoft for support. This
can be frustrating. Any thanks, The Apple TV commercial 'warned me' not to
play with my innerds!!

I'm sorry but although technically your support for Vista would come
from Microsoft, most OEM's have hardware designed specifically for them,
particularly for laptops. That is the reason for going to the OEM's
website for drivers if you have that sort of machine.

You can 1) ask Lenovo when they will have a Vista video driver available
for download since they say the X31 is Vista-compatible; 2) go back to
XP by using the restore disks you got with the system.

Thanks, this is just one of nine other problems. In fact when i finally did a
clean install, 15gig of disk was freed up, and i also learned that the
majority of the ibm utilities were not needed at all. It was IBM decision to
use the ATI chipset. I agree at some level they should be responsible for the
support. thanks for your assistance.
