Windows 7 - Can't receive mail all of the sudden...

I can enter the same account onto another laptop (XP) and it works fine.
However, it has of the sudden stopped working on my Vista laptop from the
same account using the built-in mail program that came with Vista. I am
getting the following error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.bresnan.net',
Server: 'mail.bresnan.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

All of my settings are correct, as I know these settings by heart. One day
it worked, then the next day it didn't. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Which antivirus are you using?
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Hi JBaralle,

I agree, your settings appear to be correct according to Bresnan's
webpage.

'Bresnan Communications'

0x800CCC0E = FAILED_TO_CONNECT =  Cannot connect to server.

This may be caused by your antivirus program. Read the "First" section
in this tutorial for detail on this.

I have Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 and AVG Anti-Spyware installed. The only
McAfee product I have installed is Wireless Internet Security, which doesn't
have anything to do with email. I have Spybot Search and Destroy, and
Adaware 2007 installed as well.

I tried to follow the link that was posted, however, once there, I had no
clue where to go.

AVG is compatible with Windows Mail only if you installed AVG without
the mail scanning module.
I'm not so sure about any of your other security products. Since you can
always reinstall those, I suggest you uninstall those products one at a time,
reboot, then test Windows Mail. Eventually it should become obvious
which product was the culprit.

It is customary to quote some of the post you are replying to,
since it is not self-evident which link you are talking about.
