Every one of my new or saved emails is showing up as an attachment? The To,
From, Subject and date are correct.
They are all displayed correctly when I open the attachment.
They all have this format: ATT0000XX.htm (XX.X KB)
Windows XP

Outlook

Vista

InHTML

WinLiveMail

Read all messages in plain text was not checked.
Bruce Hagen replied to Dragontooth
This should apply to WinMail as well.
Outlook Express message appears blank and has an ATT000XX.txt or an
ATT000XX.htm attachment:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=312351
And from:
http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/decode.htm
Besides the problem described in this article with temporary files,
Outlook Express may have a blank message if Internet Explorer is set at
View, Encoding to Auto-Select. If so, disable the Auto-Select in Internet
Explorer and choose instead Western European (ISO). If your program has an
option to read HTML messages in Plain Text, the HTML version of the
message may appear as an ATT0001.HTM attachment (the number may vary).

Bruce, thanks for your help. I accomplished the following:
1) I cleared the TEMP and TEMPORARY INTERNET folders.
2) I set the encoding to Western (ISO) in Internet Explorer.
3) I made sure that "Read All Messages In Plain Text" is NOT checked.
I still have the problem. It must be related to Winmail or Vista on my PC
since not only do the Inbox emails I receive show as attachments but, every
saved email (Some years old) in ALL my folders also show as attachments when
I try to open them. I cannot find any option in Winmail that might cause
this other than the one I made sure was unchecked.
I also did the following:
1) I just setup an old PC running Windows XP and Outlook Express on my
network. I used it to pull my email and it all looked good. Came in clean
and not as attachments.
2) I installed Windows Live Mail on my Vista machine, pulled my mail and
guess what, they are all attachments.
This must be a VISTA problem with Winmail and WinLiveMail and maybe other
email programs? Any ideas where to go next?

I am running out of thoughts.
You do have the Preview Pane enabled? What anti-virus program are you
running?
Damn. If it were Outlook Express, I would just tell you to create a new
identity, but that does not cut it in WinMail.
If you have not rebooted yet, do so now.
You could try removing the account, rebooting and adding it back. This is
a POP3 account, right?
Download and run this tool as well.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.40

Maybe you could try Mr. Cochran's (MVP) utilities at:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
There, you can compact and restore the database . . . . may help - it has
others with a variety of issues.

I have the preview pane enabled. It shows a nice big paperclip on the right
side with all my attachments. Even the animated monkey and smiley faces that
some of my friends use are attachments. The animated smiley faces show up as
30-40 attachments.
I run F-Secure Internet Security 2010. It even has a "Unload" feature that
allows all network traffic and a "RELOAD" that restores all options. I
unloaded it and tried to receive emails. All were attachments.
One of the first things I tried was reboot. I have done it several times
since then.
I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware almost on a daily basis. I am currently
running 1.44. No malware in weeks.
I will remove the accounts, reboot and reinstall. I too am running out of
things to do.
Dragontooth replied to Peter Foldes
No, I have Earthlink email accounts. My ISP is not AOL.

With one of the messages selected, try Alt, V, H.
Any change?

No, Alt,V produces the View on the Menu bar and the Alt H gives me Help.
Alt,Shift V does nothing and Alt, shift, H does nothing.
mac replied to Dragontooth
Do all 3 as I asked please Alt, then V, then H.

I guess I am having so many problems because nothing happens when I do an Alt
V H.
I get to View with Alt V but the H does not take me anywhere.

It should be toggling on/off the replies to messages - did the appearance of
the message list change in anyway, do you see the triangles beside the
messages indicating replies, do you still have some highlighted (unread)?
It can be very "subtle".
Dragontooth replied to slk759
You are correct. I found many of them in my sent folder. I got a little
blue box with a plus inside it. They were the original message and replies.
However, I cannot get them to toggle. Thank you for telling me what to look
for.

I finally solved this problem with the help of SUPERAntispyware. It was, in
fact, a virus. Malwarebytes Anti -malware did not find it. Now, how do I
remove the results of ALT V H? It does not toggle on/off. All my messages
and replies are still grouped?

mac replied to Dragontooth
Alt V H has no lasting effect, all it does is show a plain text message in
HTML format.
Selecting the next message cancels that view.
To remove the grouping of messages use Alt V V G :-))
Or view>current view select only show all messages.

Updates unable to be installed after repairing windows xp Windows 7 Hi, I owned a Dell XPS 1210, running genuine windows xp sp2. There were some issue with the mup.sys file and was advised to repair the windows installation with the installation cd provided by Dell. I did that and all was ok until windows started performing automatic updates. There were a lot of updates and these were downloading and installing ok initially. However, in the most recent windows update, the following updates were not able to be installed successfully after they were downloaded
