Windows 7 - DVD playing- Windows Media Player 11, Vista

I just recently bought a new computer with Windows Vista Home operating
system. It came with Windows Media Player version 11. I DO have a DVD
burner/DVD drive on the computer. However, I can't seem to play ANY DVDs
using Windows Media Player 11, even ones that are store bought. According to
google, i need a decoder (which i SHOULD have, shouldn't i?) and/or Microsoft
was too cheap to pay for licensing for the decoder or something? Does anyone
know anything about this issue?

How do i resolve this issue? --> is there something I need to download and
install in order to play my DVD media in Windows Media Player 11?

If I can't resolve it, is there any way I can uninstall WMP 11 and rollback
to version 10?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Since your system includes a DVD drive,
I would suspect there is a DVD decoder
installed. If you simply insert a DVD in the
drive and wait you may find that the player
will open.

And....maybe the following links will offer
some ideas:
