Windows 7 - Windows Vista, VPN - Network Shares & Outlook 2003 Connectivity is

Our first Vista based machine on our WAN network is giving me grief.
Basically it will not connect in Outlook 2003 and is unable to view other
computers on the network or access network shares.

The machine is running Vista Business 64bit and is connecting to Server 2003
(sp1) & Exchange 2003 (sp2) via a hardware VPN. We have tried it on multiple
VPN connections with the same result, however  the XP machines at both sites
work perfectly!

On the Vista machine I can ping the servers' IPs, Netbios name and FQDN OK.

I have tried:
-turning off windows firewall
-disabling and uninstalling mcafee security centre
-enabling netbios over tcp/ip
-disabling ipv6 on connection and in registry
-manually entering DNS, WINS servers
-tried connecting outlook using https
-tried RPC registry entry in KB899148
-tried lots of changes on the router (firewall off, NAT off, uPnP, etc)

When I take the VPN  out of the equation (connect to the LAN) the PC works
fine.  The VPNs are based around a Cisco ASA & linksys routers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  I'm out of ideas...

I have a SBS server 2003 SP2 and have been able to connect with xp pro by
installing the vpn diskette I created on the server.  When I tried to connect
a Vista Business 32 Bit work station by installing the same diskette that
worked on xp I was referred to KB 926505.  This may be some help.

Don we aren't running SBS2003 but thanks for the reply!

Robert,  yes we can ping the exchange server, we can also setup a new mail
profile and resolve the mailbox OK but it still will not connect.  It does
take a long time to resolve the name though...

The order the software is installed seems to affect the Cisco VPN client.

I have a similar problem but using the STandard VPN (PPTP) Client in Windows.



I can setup a connection to the Exchange server it resolves the name and finds the user but when I try to open outlook it says connected (cached mode) but won't udate so I get NO new/extra mail.



I did the original connection on the LAN and get most of the mail some I'm trying to update and get just a few emails over the VPN.



Any ideas or should I just bin vista and go back to XP which seemed much more solid!!
