i currently have 3 pc's on our network...
1. xp pro
2. vista ultimate (downstairs ill refer to this as vista 1)
3. vista ultimtae (upstairs ill refer to this as vista 2)
xp pc + vista 1 are networked fine, however the vista 2 can see visa 1 fine,
but not xp. also, xp cannot "see" vista 2 and vista 1 can "see" vista 2,
however cannot access.
i have checked all settings in the network and sharing settings on both
vista pc's and turned file sharing on + made network private...
i am quite sure that it has nothing to with the firewall as i have turned
ALL firewalls off including windows firewalls....
network discovery is turned on with both vista 1 and vista 2...also password
protected sharing is turned off on both vista 1 and 2.
i am getting prety frusterated lol, i have been doing some reading, also i
have turned IPv6 off on both vista 1 and 2 also i have turned NetBios on both
vista 1 + vista 2.....
if any1 can give me a hand it would be great!!!

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.
Permissions/Share info is there as well.
If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer
sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed)
1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is
the SAME.
In Vista Network and Sharing:
Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers)
Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc)
File Sharing: ON
Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared
Docs)
Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and
passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you
have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to
access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer.
Also, If you haven’t done so already, run XP’s Network Setup Wizard (in
Start >All Programs >Accessories >Communications), and tell the Wizard to
enable File and Printer Sharing.
Or > Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Set up a Home or Small
Office Network.

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

Windows 7 Windows installer 3.1 & IE7 fails to install 3 weeks ago I upgraded my motherboard, processor, RAM & display card. Since I can't clean install a new windows XP cause my old system has all needed programs & settings to my needs (very hard to get all of my programs needed) I used to option of repair install, inserted the XP CD that gave me "upgrading windows", & all went OK, new drivers installed, removed old ones. Funny thing is my IE7 is goes till the point where registry editing starts & stops installation & rolls back changes to IE6 & windows restarts. . Same when I try to update Windows installer to 3.1, it stops installation at the point or registry changing & rolls back

Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website… The website uses ActiveX controls to determine which digitally signed by Microsoft before installing it or allowing it to run. The version of Windows is _ __ __ __ . The version of Windows is _ __ __ __ . The Antivirus / security software installed is _ __ __ __ _ . Either a 3rd party firewall, a the installation of the ActiveX control needed to obtain updates. Do a manual visit to Windows | Microsoft Update When you get that error message, close the browser Then go to Start computer 2010-05-07 13:58:39:189 1300 11f4 Agent * Title = Security Update for Windows Vista (KB980232) 2010-05-07 13:58:39:189 1300 11f4 Agent * UpdateId = {0F6F26DC-954A-4B23 102 2010-05-07 13:58:39:189 1300 11f4 Agent * Title = Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB974561) 2010-05-07 13:58:39:189 1300 11f4 Agent * UpdateId = {9452E2DD
