Windows 7 - XP does not access VISTA

Hi All,

I used to have a network that consisted of:
XP Pro / XP Home / Win 98 / Win 2000

they all saw each other and I was able to move & change files between
them.

I have had VISTA since 9/2008 and I _now_ LOVE it!!!! ( got it tweaked
the way I want ---- thank you SHAWN!!!!! )

however, my vista machine sees my XP machines and the shared folders
but my XP machines don't see vista when I open network folder.

I have everything shared, all permissions are full.
I tried again to set up network on XP machine and it sees the vista
shares but not allowed access.

please help
thanks

ps don't know if it matters, vista is a laptop running wireless.

Carmine

Hi
Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local
traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should
be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers
on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party
Firewall instructions).
Even if you switch the Firewalls Off, make sure that the Trusted Zone and
exceptions are configured correctly.

Make sure that what you are trying to share in Vista is indeed is sharable.
Some folders for security reason would not share.

Hi,

This is a simple problem you are unable to see the xp computer files is
cause windows xp needs to have LLTD enabled. Either you could download
xp sp3 or download and install LLTD from the following link

'Download details: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder
(KB922120)'

hope this helps

Cheers !!

It isn't necessary to install the LLTD Responder on Windows XP.
Windows XP and Vista can network with each other and access each
other's shared disks and folders without it.

As documented in the link that you gave, the only function of the LLTD
responder is to allow a Windows XP computer to appear in Vista's

Windows 7 Windows installer 3.1 & IE7 fails to install 3 weeks ago I upgraded my motherboard, processor, RAM & display card. Since I can't clean install a new windows XP cause my old system has all needed programs & settings to my needs (very hard to get all of my programs needed) I used to option of repair install, inserted the XP CD that gave me "upgrading windows", & all went OK, new drivers installed, removed old ones. Funny thing is my IE7 is goes till the point where registry editing starts & stops installation & rolls back changes to IE6 & windows restarts. . Same when I try to update Windows installer to 3.1, it stops installation at the point or registry changing & rolls back
