Windows 7 - Several applications are trying to access the internet to specific ip address in vista only! ref/eDN3072784783

The address are 10.0.0.138 which is a gateway address on the router and the
224.0.0.2 where is unknown to us internet address. This is happening also
with application that ARE NOT internet applications! In particular, a
specific program that had never requested internet access in xp pro now in
vista requires access. This mysterious activity found by zone alarm
firewall.
So we have the same applications with different system with different
behavior. I think that 99% system is responsible for this. Of course there
is antivirus installed, updated etc. The application's files are identical
with the original files, so cannot be virus activity.
Please give me more information about this issue.

Did you know that you can research the IP
at www.domaintools.com? Enter it into the
whois search for a full listing.
Your 224.0.0.2 returns iana.org. Maybe the
software is just calling there for DNS service.
In that case, the question would be what
domain it's looking up. You might be able to
figure it out by lony letting Zone Alarm let the
program go out on a case by case basis. But you
may not have a chance to say no to the final
destination if you've said yes to iana.org.
Unfortunately, a great deal of software is
spyware these days, insofar as it goes online
without asking and without telling you the
purpose. I've seen Norton System Works try
to go out during install. Then when the cable
plug was pulled it just hung for awhile, never
once showing a message saying that it was
attempting online access! ... Opera calls home
on first run without telling you... etc.

I think those are ICMP Router Discovery packets.
To make it easier to understand is like Vista yelling where the hack is
a router that can route my traffic (that is done via 224.0.0.2
(all-routers)) if there is a router supporting ICMP Router Discovery it
yells back here iam please use me to reach the internet (i wanna be
your default route).

A note to Windows Vista Team Windows 7 I'm quite angry with Microsoft for releasing Vista before it's ready, I've wasted 8 hours of my time in a small replacing my desktops with laptops, and I won't be buying any more that have Vista on until Service pack 2 comes out. If I had the time, I would send it can be taken back to the retailer for a refund. If everyone took back vista, Microsoft would be in a sorry state now. Installed Vista dual boot, think I screwed up! Windows 7 Hey gang, I think I have messed up here. I just installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate, retail full version, in what I thought was a dual boot environment. I added a new sata hard drive, and installed Vista on it. Now, I do not get an option when I boot to choose wich OS to boot to, it only boots into Vista. Under Vista, it shows as my C drive, I see the partion on the other hard drive my XP Pro is on, however under Vista it shows as drive E? Dangit, I thought I had read enough to know what I installed mine. If you don't have dual boot, it usually means that the Vista installation did not see your XP drive (was it unplugged?) if so that's just and choose the XP drive to boot to XP. We recently purchased a Gateway with Vista pre-installed. It is still sitting here on the floor waiting to get up and it up and send it back!! I now know from reading in the discussion group, Vista is not compatible with Picture It 2002 which is an ultimately important feature that I years ago on my present Gateway with the XP system. tired of this. . . Windows 7 I've been a Microsoft fan for years but this Vista situation has just done it for me. I bought a new top-of -the-line laptop with Vista on it. The amount of pain I've put up with over the past couple 3 other machines. I know the reader may be bad but my gripe is that Vista goes merrily on its way without even mentioning that something didn't work. I need A to B, I either have to be real quick about it or wait until Vista gets over its presumption that what I really wanted was this or that part of the tree expanded. You've got about a second before Vista moves everything on you. You have to wait with your item selected until all this and then go hunt down your destination directory again. Then wait again to be sure Vista isn't going to move everything again. I don't know how many times the been through all this a time or two.
