Windows 7 - Taskbar problem

When the taskbar is "unlocked" you can see 3 columns of dots immediately to
the right of the Start button, then several icons in the Quicklaunch
toolbar, and then a further 3 columns of dots, which can be dragged across
to the right at will.

The Quicklaunch icons on my computer are now showing on the right-hand side
of this latter dotted column, instead of their normal position on the left
of the dots.

Any suggestion on how to get them back where they belong ?

My thanks in advance if you can help!

click and hold the dots closest to the start menu and drag all the way to
the other side, toward the system icons, and time. when you get close to the
system stuff, the quick launch icons should flop back over and you can then
drag back toward the start menu. If this doesn't fix it then just right
click the taskbar, click toolbars and deselect the Quick launch, then right
click again, toolbars and SELECT quick launch. this should also put them
back right beside the start menu. Hope I was somewhat of a help,

Covering the desktop with icons Windows 7 I helped a friend the other day with a problem on his XP laptop PC, and noticed he had completely filled the desktop with icons of all sorts. Programs, point to Google, IE, Skype, etc. I do believe this can seen no sign of problems from that. My own Desktop typically has about 40 regular icons and sometimes as many as 100. It boots quickly. It might take a few extra problem on his XP laptop PC, and | noticed he had completely filled the desktop with icons of all sorts. | Programs, point to Google, IE, Skype, etc. I do believe this can the boot-up. Right? Any other potential problems? This is completely *not* true. Having many icons significantly slows down any desktop refresh (and there are many such when different explorer functions wait many seconds (up to 30) per desktop refresh, until I set the Max Cached Icons reg key to 12, 000. Now it does not matter indeed, but I doubt many banished. Whoever burns a book, shall burn. Interesting. I have got my desktop covered with icons (but I am only using 800x600 resolution), and doing a refresh is instantaneous. (All of the icons are just shortcuts to the programs, as they should be). So it appears that it
I've been trying to figure out why I cannot get my XP Pro desktop icons into alphabetic order. And I've come to realise that it's because there are the stuff from the 'Terry Desktop' to the 'All Users Desktop' and presumably then my icons would stay in proper sequence. Can anyone help me to achieve this please? - - Terry, East a record of what was installed than anything else. Right-click on the desktop > Arrange icons by > Name - -- Leonard Grey Errare Humanum Est Big Al had a good response for you be what it's alphabetizing on. Personally, rather than alphabetic, I like to group my icons by function anway. Editors all near each other, graphics near each other, Microsoft progs near each other, etc. . Then I turn on the Desktop Toolbar on the TaskBar, move it up next to the System Tray, and turn off the icon pictures but ymmv. I just prefer the tree view to the screen full of icons. Plus it's always instantly available without moving / hiding / closing windows. HTH Twayne Thanks both! Hey, that Desktop Toolbar is neat. Embarrassed to say that in all the many years I've been running d want to do that anyway, as I rarely have more than 3 columns of icons on the left (currently there are 35 icons displayed), so there's plenty of space
but I just do not remember how to make a small re-adjustment: While rearranging icons in quick start - windows defender insinuated itself into that - I managed with only the usual quick start no longer has the short vertical bar that confines the space to 4 icons, with other icons accessed by small upward pointing arrows. What to do? Many thanks in advance for your narrower width and you will also see very faint lines to adjust the space between icons and minimized tabs. Gives room for 12 icons or more in the quicklaunch bar and it displays the day of the week in the systray. | | > This is embarassing but I just do not remember how to | > make a | > small re-adjustment: | > While rearranging icons in quick start - windows defender insinuated | > itself | > into that - I managed with only the usual quick start no longer has the short | > vertical | > bar that confines the space to 4 icons, with other icons accessed by | > small | > upward pointing arrows.
