After installing this optional Windows VISTA update, I get the error that "No
Audio Output Device is Installed". What happened and how do I fix it?

Same thing happened to my on my Gateway laptop. I went back to the SigmaTel
audio drivers and all is good again. Frankly, I don't know why I was
upgrading if the first place because my audio was fine.

same with a gateway desktop, no sound after the update. reinstalled the
original gateway driver and it works again.
it shows sigmatel HD audio again instead of IDT

I am having this same problem with my gateway after downloading the
Vista update. I cant see to fix the problem. I have uninstalled the
vista update. My computer installed the software for Sigma Tel High
Definition Audio CODEC and said it was "ready to use" but i am still
getting the No Audio Output Device installed, and my sound isnt
working.... does anyone know how to fix it? I would really really
appreciate the help.

You cannot just roll back the driver - you need to go back previous restore
point.
David P replied...
Yes, that is what I did too. I misstated above.

Strange: Version Tracker Pro shows no such update for my machine. In
fact, all it shows for Audio is the "SigmaTel High Definition Audio
Codec." Nor does it show any updates available.
My opinion?
STAY AWAY from any such "IDT" updates unless you are SURE they are for
your machine.
And, "If it works already fairly-well, there is no need to update". As
they say, "No need to fix what's not broken."

Could anyone please upload the four WRT_M8...INI files from "C:\Program
Files\IDT".
The reason I am asking for them is that I was affected by the IDT
update but dont have the chance to use System Restore.
I managed to get sound working again by experimenting, but also
accidentally lost my original IDT folder.
Thanks in advance
