How can we remove invalid or incorrect entries from Programs and
Features manually...?

In addition to hacking the registry as suggested by Rick Rogers, check
out CCleaner:

http://www.ccleaner.com/

You can either uninstall, rename  or REMOVE an entry using that
program and the Tools/Uninstall function.
