Windows 7 - DLL cache

After three hours on the phone with HP (because my all-in-one quit
functioning), the tech ran out of options after uninstalling and reloading
software. He ran a SFC/Scannow (Windows File Protection) as a last resort
thinking the problem was with the OS. We got the message "Files that are
required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache. Insert
your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now." I did, and the process completed
without any error messages. After removing the OS disk, I ran SFC/Scannow
again (Trust but Verify). I got the same message as before running with the
OS disk installed. Evidently the files needed did not copy to the DLL cache.
What am I doing wrong and how can I resolve this?
I have Windows XP running on a Dell Vostro 200. Any input is appreciated.

If you updated WinXP to SP2  and/or  Sp3  then your original XP home
edition without those Service packs will not work.  You will have to create
a XP disk with SP2 and SP3.

If your computer is working properly except for the HP All in One, what
is the problem with the HP??

Many thanks for the info and link. I will give it a try (I am still a little
confused about some parts of the process) and let you know if it works.

I went to the howtohaven site and followed the directions for how to
slipstream XP Service Pack 3 to create a setup disk. I followed the steps in
detail and everything went fine until I got to "6. Slipstream the Service
Pack." When I brought up the command prompt and entered C:\XPSP3
/intergrate:C:\XPSETUP, the response was "C:\XPSP3 is not recognized as an
internal or external command, operable program or batch file." I went to the
C: drive and confirmed that the file was there that I had downloaded. (I
wonder if using the link on the howtohaven site to download Service Pack 3
may be problimatic. It goes to Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation
Package for IT Professionals and Developers. The downloaded file is a Self
Extracting Cabinet.) The usual Microsoft download site does not allow the file
to be saved. It only scans the computer to determine if you already have
Service Pack 3, which I do. Any ideas????

Dave, did you install SP2 first?   You do not need SP1. SP3 requires SP2
be installed first.  Go below if needed
