My girlfriends computer, a toshiba laptop running win xp with latest
updates. When I hit ALT CTR DEL to taskmanager comes up showing the graphs
but NOT the tabs which would let me switch to processes and applications.(so
I cannot close applications). She only has a disk which restores things to
the condition of the a new computer. Advice would be appreciated.

It (Task Manager) has somehow got into minimal mode (or whatever it is
called). I cannot remember how to get out of it - I think it is something
to do with right-clicking in the grey border of what you _can_ see.

Double-clicking the border. Didn't take long to check...

She is running in what is called "Small Footprint Mode." To change back
and forth from this mode to regular mode, just double-click on the
border.

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why point where this OS will be problematic with new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until did not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . .
