Windows 7 - WMM Problem Save movie file

I am getting the classic "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the
specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie
are still available, that the saving location is still available..." ETC
message, but I have some additional details that I hope might help diagnose
what might be wrong:

*Basically, when I import video files (the imports are in WMV format--I
converted them to WMV using iOrgSoft Video Converter), it splits the file up
into several clips of different lengths for seemingly no rhyme or reason (did
this on my old computer with a different version of WMM too).

it will have them laid out in the following format:

FileName_001 FileName_002 FileName_003 FileName_004 ..etc.

I then split the clips as needed to isolate the parts I want to drag to the
timeline.

Anyway, through experimentation I have found that for each file, I can use
all the clips it has been automatically broken up into up until the very last
one, where I can only use a certain small portion of it (the last one is
usually the largest by far) and have it save as a movie file.

So FileName_001, FileName_002, and FileName_003 will all work and save as a
movie file in their entirety, and I can use some smaller portion of
FileName_004 and have it save as well. But if I include parts past a certain
point in that very last clip (FileName_004), it will not save.

So let us just say that the first 8 seconds of FileName_004 can be saved as a
movie file. If I just try to save 2 seconds worth of the clip after the 8
second mark of FileName_004, it will trigger the "Windows Movie Maker cannot
save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source
files..." message.

I tried first converting the files with a different program (used WinFF this
time) and ran into the same problem. This time, the file I tested it out on
was divided into 7 clips when it imported, as opposed to 4, but when I tried
to save the 7th clip by itself as a movie file, I again got the error message.

When it imports, the status percentage bar does not get all the way to the
end...it usually goes into the 20's and then the clips appear. ONE file I
tried importing went all the way on the percentage status bar before the
clips appeared, and I was able to save that file in its entirety.

Anyway, I am using Windows 7...downloaded WMM 2.6 because I read it was
supposed to work fine on it. My video is 4:54 (40.71 MB), but that does not
seem to be the issue as if I try to save merely a couple seconds worth of
material that comes after a certain point in the last clip from the file
imported, I get the error message.

The files that were converted were originally in MP4 format.

Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciate.

Have you tried Windows Live Movie Maker?
http://windowslive.com/desktop/moviemaker

Supported file types in Windows Live Movie Maker

or.......

Anyway.......

As for the clips...have you tried unchecking
screen?

No promises...but maybe the following freeware
would be worth a try for the conversion.

(FWIW...it is always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Format Factory
http://www.pcfreetime.com/
(FWIW...you may want to uncheck
all the boxes on the final screen)

After downloading and installing Format Factory...
open the program and choose an Output Folder...
(this is where you will find your files after they are
converted)

Drag/drop your video clips onto the main screen...

Select 'All to WMV' / OK...

Click...Start...on the toolbar...

Converting DV to DV-AVI Windows 7 I have some DV files which were ripped via Kino on Ubuntu. I can play them on Windows XP if I use VLC. I'd like to be able to play them in Windows Media Player. DV files ripped via Windows Movie Maker are in AVI containers. Is there any way to convert the DV files ffmpeg, but the resulting AVI file is 40x smaller than the DV file. I tried winff and it allows you to create DV from DV. The result was not playable in Windows Media Player. I also used winff to create an avi and again it was 40x smaller than the DV file. Any
