Windows 7 - copying music files

I backed up "My Music" onto an external HD. Now I want to restore an album to
but it does not appear in my Windows Media Player library.
I do not understand the relation between the files in "My Music" and the
library. How does one make WMP recognize files?
I notice that a lot of queries concern copying but the answers are not all
that clear.

You backed up - how ? Simply copied the file(s) onto your external HD ? Or
used some software ?
Did you Cut and Paste by mistake ? If so then you will need to COPY the files
from your external HD to the My Music on your internal HD
Workaround : simply copy the files to a location on your internal drive then
point WMP to that location and add to library or playlist or whatever.

Jerry
