Windows 7 - 2 XP OS on one hard drive, same C.O.A.

I think the owner of this PC has installed XP again on a second partition.
There is 2 18GB partitions on a 40GB hard drive. XP boot is FAT32 on the end
partition and XP is NTFS is on the 1st partition. Magicjellybean product key
finder tells me there is only one product key. There is a large Windows
folder in each partition and lots of applications which is why I think the
WIndows folder is so large.

Assuming you have the winxp cd or recovery disk & key, copy all data to
external, clean install winxp, by deleting all partitions in the
installation process

Hi DL. A problem with copy all the data is this is not my computer and I am
not sure how to approach that so he has all his aplications on the computer.

Hi, I am considering your advice and will reinstall if I have to but it
seems I may be able to solve the problems before I have to do a reinstall
seeing the things that are slowly coming right and after a little research on
the internet.
The computer is not letting me remove the page file which is giving me a
very good reason to do the clean install. WHat holds me back from do a clean
install is this is a NEC Packard Bell computer and I just now discovered the
restore partition may be intact and I may be able to run an F11 restore which
I will attempt after the umpteenth defragment utility process finishes.
fun

Go to run, type: diskmgmt.msc In msc,L.click on any hd or partition,go to
actions, all, select properties & get the info on it.Or,go to run, type: cmd
In cmd type: DiskPart In DiskPart type: list disk type: list drives
type:HELP
for all cmds. Also, since most or all drives are probably in use,you wont be
able to delete anything in windows explorer, boot to xp cd,press r at menu,
(recovery console),select 1 for C: press enter for password, type: DiskPart
In DiskPart you can now delete any or all, press ESC to quit, type: EXIT to
leave
recovery.

Thank you for the good tips. I reformatted the hard drives and did a clean
install of XP.
Sorry for the late replies, I do not receive the notifications. Maybe I
tricked myself.

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why? If you use both XP and 7, do you ever plan on ditching XP for good? What will you do when support is dropped to the point where this OS will be problematic with new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until SP1. Even then, I find the moron-babysitting did not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . . Here are some more details . . . . My PC runs on an old AMD Duron 1800. I run XP and have stayed on SP2 because the system is so fragile that it might not be able to recover from any problems with SP3. Chkdsk / Scandisk Windows 7 I still use Windows98 most of the time. I am not fond of XP, but I have XP on my laptop computer, and must keep it to use the WIFI.
