Windows XP Backup - Email address book

Asked By brbrown
08-Feb-10 07:11 AM
On my XP, I use other software for main backups but for quick small backups
of personal settings such as Documents and web Favourites, I use XP's own
backup. Can anyone please tell me where in the backup setup I can find my
email address book and current email folders? At present I export the address
book to my desktop which I can then see in the backup setup page but surely
there is a box somewhere to tick. I cannot find it.

Shall we guess what e-mail program you are using?

If it is Outlook Express:

This has nothing to do with XP, the answer depends entirely on which email
client your using, and as we have no idea we cannot give you an answer.

But since XP does come with an e-mail client, and only one, why not make a
suggestion based on that, as LG did eight hours earlier?
Hello Everyone. Thanks for the replies.

Hello Everyone. Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the delay coming back only
as usual I did not get email notification and sorry for the lack of
information. I am using Outlook Express. Thanks Leonard, I will take look at
your link but surely there is an option in XP's backup facility boxes to
tick? Brian.

Why waste the time if the OP does not see fit to provide any useful
information, rather than catering to them I'd rather get the required info
to provide a useful reply, I try not to reply based on assumptions, your
free to do so if you like.

Hello David. Thanks for that.

Hello David. Thanks for that. I was trying to use XP Backup to backup
Documents, Favourites as well as Email Address Book. I just thought the
information might be in XP's own backup but with my inexperience, did not know
where to find it.
It would not be an assumption, though, would it?

It would not be an assumption, though, would it? More of an "if". No need,
anyway - LG did, and it paid off.
Not quite sure what you mean Olorin. I surrender.

Not quite sure what you mean Olorin. I surrender. However, thanks everyone
for your interest. Best wishes. Brian
It was a separate discussion and my posts were not replies to you!

It was a separate discussion and my posts were not replies to you! Anyway,
did you get anywhere with Leonard Grey's suggestion?
Thanks Olorin.

Thanks Olorin. I did get somewhere, although I thought the details on
Leonard's link seemed a bit complicated but at the same time I found a link
on a Microft Help page referring specifically to XP Backup. It appears that
Outlook Express's Email Address Book and Messages are included in the
Documents section if ticked for backup. However, for peace of mind, I shall
trawl through the details to fin it.
That page has the information you need.

That page has the information you need.

Another way to find the Address Book and messages:

For the Address Book, search for this:

*.wab

That is,

Start | Search | All Files and Folders

In the box "All or part of the file name", type:

*.wab

Under More Advanced Options, make sure the following are checked:

Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders

Click Search.

The default location should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Address
Book

Regarding messages, all these files have the .dbx extension. So simply
search for

*.dbx

The above being said, I still think you will find value in trawling
through that Web site. :-)
Thanks for that Daave. I will run through that process. B"Daave" wrote:
