PatchedSFC_os.dll

Asked By MPW

I receive this prompt that there is a patchedSFC_os.dll from my McAfee
program. I tried to delete the file, but can not remove it. I searched the
windows sites, but have not been able to find out how to delete that file.

If its a mcafee file, then its probably in use,go to run, type:services.

Scroll to mcafee services, double click, select "disable",probably more than
one service running...

Sounds like you were hacked/infested/something 'bad'.

sfc_os.dll is a process belonging to the Windows program . sfc.dll is a file
that contains functions used to monitor system files for validity. It
belongs to the Microsoft Windows environment.

Having a "PatchedSFC_OS.dll" sounds really bad.

I'd scan with MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware. No guarantees that will
clean it.

I'd probably do a repair (in-place upgrade) installation with a Windows XP
w/SP3 integrated CD to replace necessary system files with known good ones.
