The cost of photo editing software is so high. I cannot afford to purchase it
and have turned to Microsoft Office Picture Manager to edit my family snaps.
What feature does Microsoft Office Picture Manager have? I am aware that it
does not do what the more expensive alternatives do, but surely it has
featrures for basic editing.

Hi,

Don??t know how that works with Office Picture Manager. But there are tons of
free editing-software out there in the www. Some pretty usefull and easy to
use are:
Photoscape http://photoscape.en.softonic.com/
Picasa by Google http://picasa.google.com/
Paint.net by MS http://download.cnet.com/Paint-NET/3000-2192_4-10338146.html
or last not least IrfanView
http://download.cnet.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10021962.html
just to name some.

Probably all this programms are more suitable to get the job done.

I have never encountered any. I recommend Irfanview for viewing images. It can open just about any format you throw at it, and saved it as a jpeg. The first time I tried opening the jpeg in Microsoft Office & Picture Manager, I still got the red X. Then I tried one more time, and
