Windows 7 - Thumbnails on Network Drives

I am using XP Pro, SP3.
I used to keep my photos on a USB external drive. Everytime I opened
folders on that drive the thumbnails appeared instantaneously.
I moved my photos to a network drive mass storage device, using RAID1.
Now, when I open a folder, the thumbnails have not been retained and need to
be rebuilt - which in my case (hundreds of photos, in TIFF format) literally
takes hours for some folders.
The file 'thumbnails.db' is present.
Is there anyway to force the retention of the thumbnail information on a
network drive, similar to a USB External Drive, or Local Drive?

Update - I created a new folder and copied a file into it. The folder did
not generate a 'thumbs.db' file. The other thumbs.db, must have been copied
from the USB drive, but is not being updated with new files.

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why? If you use both XP and 7, do you ever plan on ditching XP for good? What will you do when support is dropped to the point where this new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until SP1. Even then, I find the moron-babysitting not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . . OT] Windows 7 [Off topic.] Where can I view a list of XP updates with a simple explanation of what each one does? I cannot find an simple overview of XP updates on Microsoft's website. I run XP and have stayed on SP2 because the system is so fragile that it might not be able to recover from any problems with SP3.
