Windows 7 - Boot remote computer from local computer

I have a simple remote desktop setup consisting of a remote computer running
XP Professional and a local computer (laptop) running XP Home Edition. When
connected I can shut down the remote computer from the local computer (using
Ctrl-Alt-End).
Is there any simple way, having disconnected and shut down the remote
computer, I can reboot it from the local computer? I have searched various
newsgroups without success.

If you want to shutdown a remote computer, you can use shutdown command. If
you do a lot, you may create a batch file including shutdown command. Also
make sure you have right to do so.

Short answer: Hell no. You shut it down.
it is been powered down if ACPI had anything to say about it. If it is
in waiting for restart mode the system is down and it has no
networking active so there is no way to access it remotely.
You do not shut down an XP Pro computer, you logoff or you restart it
through the shutdown/restart dialogs.

The OP has stated he already shut it down, he wants to initiate a
restart remotely. (Is there a magic packet to powerup a PC?)
Do you know of a version of remote desktop server on Windows XP Pro
Workstation that does NOT require administrator privileges to use?
If one assigns a user to the Remote Users group, does this not
automatically confer shutdown/restart access?

Sorry, you computer support, you may use wakeup LAN software. This how to
may help.

Why do you still use Windows XP? Windows 7 Give your reasons. Do you plan to upgrade ever? If so, when and why? If you use both XP and 7, do you ever plan on ditching XP for good? What will you do when support is dropped to the point where this OS will be problematic with new hardware? Personally I am waiting for Windows 8 to release a second service pack. XP sucked when it first came out until SP1. Even then, I find the moron-babysitting did not work, it had to enabled then disabled to be disabled for real. Sigh. . . Will Remote Desktop do this? Windows 7 Sorry about the FF question. This is definitely On Topic, afaik. Will Remote Desktop running two computers, even if I can synchroonize them. I have a desktop computer running XP (It may turn out to be Home or Pro, if that matters) , but it is in the basement. Can I do that with Remote Desktop? (Or some other feature of Windows?) I have never used that. Does it have visible overhead, or would the full screen the same wired / wireless network, is there a better way? (Ill ask about that on alt.comp.networking.connectivity if you say Remote Desktop is good.) * *I have just been sick my pretty back yard. I think I should spend more time there. Thanks a lot.
