Windows 7 - Revo Uninstaller question

Asked By George on 29-Jul-12 08:35 PM
I realize this may not be the right newsgroup for this question,
but perhaps somebody who is familiar with Revo Uninstaller might
be able to shed some light on this:

I had version 1.93, which listed a total of 166 applications
eligible for removal. When I started to use it today, it gave me
an option to update to version 1.94, which I did.

I thought the newer version would replace the previous version,
but it simply installed itself IN ADDITION to the previous
version, so now I have both versions installed. That is not
really a problem, but what is puzzling is that the previous
version lists 166 applications, while the newer version lists only
116.

If anybody familiar with Revo can shed some light on this, I would
appreciate it.

Thanks,

George

One thing I'd do is try to find out the revision history of the different
versions, either on their own website, or some other one that might have it
(from a google search - I have done that, on occasion).

I'd also run them both together, and note or record which programs do not
show up in the new version, and see if maybe there is a common factor there,
that we can figure out.

Either the newer version is making fewer errors in its determination, or
it is just missing some programs still currently installed (which you may
know offhand, anyways). Or possibly the newer version knows it cannot
remove some programs, so it is not listing those anymore.

Thanks Bill, those will be things worth doing.

I also submitted the question to the company's tech support, so
I will update this thread when I receive a reply.

After contacting Revo tech support (btw got a response within an
hour), it turned out that on the previous version I had enabled
done that on the new version. When I disabled those two options
on the previous version, the number of installations listed on
both the previous and new versions match exactly. And of course
if I enable those options in both versions, the number of
installations also match.

Computing . . . a constant learning experience!!

Btw, this is an excellent product, Revo Uninstaller is much more
complete than Add/Remove in Control Panel, and it is free.

George
